Detroit Lions center Dominic Raiola has been suspended one game by the NFL after stepping on a Chicago Bears player.

It was expected that Detroit Lions center Dominic Raiola would be suspended by the NFL for one game after he purposely stepped on the leg of a Chicago Bears defender.

That prediction has come true as the NFL handed down their punishment to the multiple time offender and Dominic Raiola will indeed be suspended a single game for his actions.

The play occurred during the Week 16 contest between Raiola’s Lions and the Bears in which the center can be seen stomping on the lower leg of a player stuck in a pile. Raiola, who is known around the league for his at time dirty tactics should have likely recieved more considering his past actions, but the NFL apparently didn’t feel that way.

For those that missed the video, you can see that here.

As for the Detroit Lions, while they’ll be without Dominic Raiola in their regular season finale, they have already locked up a playoff birth so the loss of their offensive lineman won’t be that impactful.

It’s a shame the league didn’t punish the center with a more strict penalty as they attempt to improve their image. For what it’s worth, Raiola could be seen attempting to explain himself after the incident to members of the Chicago Bears and suggested that he was losing his balance, thus why ended up stepping on their teammates leg.

That explanation doesn’t really jive with what everybody watching the game saw however, as it appeared completely premeditated on Dominic Raiola’s part, especially given his history.
