The final attendance for 141st running of the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs was 123,763 people, which is a race record. The crowd watched the Larry Jones-trained Lovely Maria win the Run for the Lillies, the $1 million, mile-and-an-eighth Kentucky Oaks, which is the biggest race of the year for three-year old fillies as the Kentucky Derby is for three-year-old colts. Lovely Maria broke from post position 7 and was ridden by jockey Kerwin Clark who won his first Oaks at the age of 56.
Lovely Maria broke well and rated off Condo Commando who was expected to set fast fractions and she quickly took the lead heading around the first turn. No. 6 Angela Renee pressed the pace, but eventually faded in the stretch. No. 2 Shook Up ran well down the center and tried to close, but could not chase down Lovely Maria who ran an excellent race.
