Watch American Pharoah win the 2015 Preakness Stakes on a rain-soaked track at Pimlico in impressive fashion.

For the first time since 2009, the top three finishers from the Kentucky Derby were in the field for the 140th running of the Preakness Stakes at historic Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland with Derby winner American Pharoah the betting favorite at 4/5 odds.

American Pharoah beat Firing Line and Dortmund at Churchill Downs two weeks ago but despite being the betting favorite faced long odds after drawing the pole position earlier in the week. Only once in the last 54 years has the Preakness winner started from the first position.

Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, it was American Pharoah that was the star attraction at Pimlico by virtue of winning the Derby as horse racing fans and even the casual fan who have waited since 1978 for the next triple crown winner. Affirmed is the last horse to capture the triple crown and we are currently in the longest drought without a horse taking the Derby, Preakness and Belmont.

Speaking of drought, it was far from drought conditions at Pimlico with a torrential downpour soaking the riders, horses and the infield was evacuated before the horses ran on the muddy track. Only three horses in the field have racing experience in wet experiences, including American Pharoah who won the Rebel Stakes in the rain and Danzig Moon and Bodhisattva.

In the end it was American Pharoah who went wire-to-wire to win the Preakness Stakes and will enter the Belmont Stakes on June 6 with the chance at the triple crown. American Pharoah ran a 1:58.46 to beat Tale of Verve, Divining Rod and Dortmund.

Do you think American Pharoah will be able to make horse racing history and join the likes of Affirmed, Seattle Slew and Secretariat with a win at Belmont Park in three weeks and win the Belmont Stakes and be the first triple crown winner since 1978?
