Autonation Cure Bowl Odds & Prediction

Bowl season starts this weekend, and that means that I am back with my final odds and predictions for the 2015 college football season. I am assured of at least a .500 mark, but I will fall short of my goal of 55%. I want to keep right around the 53% that I am at now. However, I did well in my new points system, which will carry over into bowl season.

In case you missed how the point scale works, here is a brief rundown:

5. A lock. I am comfortable making a sizable wager on this game.

4. Very confident. Not quite a lock, but I am comfortable making a decent sized wager on it.

3. Middle of the road. Good enough that I would make a small wager on it.

2. Could go either way. So much so that I wouldn’t bet on it.

1. Stay away from these.

Take note that any games that involve 1-AA teams will NOT be picked. That means I will be staying away from the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl. I haven’t paid much attention to FCS schools this year. It wont do anyone any good for me to make only a slightly educated guess on the game.

Just in case you missed any:

On to the Autonation Cure Bowl!

San Jose State(-2.5) vs. Georgia State at Orlando, FL(3):

San Jose State(5-7, 4-4):

Wins: vs. New Hampshire(43-13), vs. Fresno State(49-23), at UNLV(33-27), vs. New Mexico(31-21), at Hawaii(42-23)

Losses: at Air Force(16-37), at Oregon State(21-35), at Auburn(21-35), vs. San Diego State(7-30), vs. BYU(16-17), at Nevada(34-37), vs. Boise State(23-40)

Record vs. bowl teams: 1-5

Georgia State(6-6, 5-3):

Wins: at New Mexico State(34-32), at Ball State(31-19), at Texas State(41-19), vs. South Alabama(24-10), vs. Troy(31-21), at Georgia Southern(34-7)

Losses: vs. Charlotte(20-23), at Oregon(28-61), vs. Liberty(33-41), vs. Appalachian State(3-37), at Arkansas State(34-48), vs. Louisiana-Lafayette(21-23)

Record vs. bowl teams: 1-3

San Jose State has one of the best running backs you have never heard of in Tyler Ervin. That said, he has been overshadowed lately by quarterback Kenny Potter and the newfound passing game.  The Spartans played better down the stretch, giving them the opportunity to play in a bowl despite the losing record.

Georgia State also started slowly this year, losing to a bad Charlotte team and FCS Liberty in September. The Panthers turned it around in conference play, culminating in a rout of rival Georgia Southern. The defense was a big reason for the turnaround of the season, and they will need to continue for one more game.

The Cure Bowl gets two teams that are peaking at the right time, but I actually like Georgia State straight up. The defense is playing well, and I trust their offense more than San Jose State, who has inexplicably let Tyler Ervin disappear for long stretches at a time. That will likely happen against a Georgia State team that shut down the best rushing offense in the nation in the final game.

My pick: Georgia State
