Here is the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl capsule and pick against the spread!

Bowl season starts this weekend, and that means that I am back with my final odds and predictions for the 2015 college football season. I am assured of at least a .500 mark, but I will fall short of my goal of 55%. I want to keep right around the 53% that I am at now. However, I did well in my new points system, which will carry over into bowl season.

In case you missed how the point scale works, here is a brief rundown:

5. A lock. I am comfortable making a sizable wager on this game.

4. Very confident. Not quite a lock, but I am comfortable making a decent sized wager on it.

3. Middle of the road. Good enough that I would make a small wager on it.

2. Could go either way. So much so that I wouldn’t bet on it.

1. Stay away from these.

Take note that any games that involve 1-AA teams will NOT be picked. That means I will be staying away from the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl. I haven’t paid much attention to FCS schools this year. It wont do anyone any good for me to make only a slightly educated guess on the game.

Just in case you missed any:

On to the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl!

BYU vs. (22)Utah(-2.5) at Las Vegas, NM(2):

BYU(9-3):

Wins: at Nebraska(33-28), vs. Boise State(35-24), vs. Connecticut(30-13), vs. East Carolina(45-38), vs. Cincinnati(38-24), vs. Wagner(70-6), at San Jose State(17-16), vs. Fresno State(52-10), at Utah State(51-28)

Losses: at UCLA(23-24), at Michigan(0-31), vs. Missouri(16-20)

Record vs. bowl teams: 6-2

Utah(9-3, 6-3):

Wins: vs. Michigan(24-17), vs. Utah State(24-14), at Fresno State(45-24), at Oregon(62-20), vs. California(30-24), vs. Arizona State(34-18), vs. Oregon State(27-12), at Washington(34-23), vs. Colorado(20-14)

Losses: at USC(24-42), at Arizona(30-37), vs. UCLA(9-17)

Record vs. bowl teams: 6-3

It’s not often that you get a fierce rivalry in a bowl game, but with BYU going independent, they lost chief rival Utah in the process. Now the “Holy War” heads to Sin City – how appropriate – for the first ever meeting at a neutral site. You can bet the intensity will remain the same for all of the fans that make the trek south. Royal Purple definitely caught lightning in a bottle here!

BYU opened the season by beating Nebraska on the road with a Hail Mary, and losing QB Taysom Hill in the process. Tanner Mangum did a nice job as a replacement in navigating the rest of the schedule, but BYU is still missing their greatest playmaker. The emergence of RB Algernon Brown helped them immensely this year, but what happens when teams stop the run? Well, the losses to Michigan and Missouri happen.

These teams had two common opponents this year. BYU lost to UCLA by one. Utah lost to the Bruins by eight. BYU beat Utah State by 23. Utah won by ten. BYU is a long ways ahead on paper, and honestly, Utah lost their heart when RB DaVontae Booker went down. I have to take BYU here.

My pick: BYU
