College Football Results Against The Spread Week 12

This college football season has not been kind to me so far. I have only got 261 games right while missing 320. There is a long ways to go to get to .500, and time is running out.

More from College Football Odds

I think I did better this week, but of course, I never really know until I jump right into it. My goal for the week was 35 correct out of 58. Let’s see how I did in that quest!

Here are all of the college football results against the spread for week 12. Winners against the spread are in BOLD. My result will follow.

Kent State(-3.5) at Bowling Green: HIT! There is nothing like beating a spread by 38.5 points. Nothing.

Ohio at Central Michigan(EVEN): MISS! The Chippewas needed this more than Ohio, and it showed.

Ball State at Toledo(-20.5): MISS! I’m blaming this one on the fog. Yeah, that had to be it, because Toledo dominated this game.

Northern Illinois(-3.5) at Eastern Michigan: MISS! Well, it was a great game, but you never know what’s going to happen once you surrender to overtime.

Louisville(-14.5) at Houston: HIT! You can tell Houston had this game on their minds for a long time. Too bad they didn’t treat the rest of their schedule the same way.

Arkansas State at Troy(-9.5): HIT! This wasn’t a good game, unless you are an Arkansas State fan. This got ugly early, and stayed that way.

UNLV at Boise State(-28.5): HIT! This was easy money. Boise covers like the Texas Tech defense right now.

Memphis(-7.5) at Cincinnati: HIT! The Bearcats are completely lost right now.

UTSA at Texas A&M(-27.5): HIT! It will be hard to pick A&M games from here on out, but one thing is certain: they aren’t as explosive without Trevor Knight at QB.

Kansas State(-2.5) at Baylor: HIT! I should have had more confidence in this than I did.

Louisiana-Lafayette at Georgia(-22.5): MISS! Thanks, Georgia. You are supposed to crush those cupcakes!

UTEP at Rice(-1.5): MISS! Okay, I’m through with UTEP. Enough is enough!

Oklahoma State at TCU(-4.5): HIT! This was the easiest money of the weekend. Bedlam is going to be an interesting one this year! It will be for the Big 12(10) title!

Ohio State(-21.5) at Michigan State: MISS! I knew better….

Iowa(-9.5) at Illinois: HIT! You know, at this point I’m not sure why Illinois even went back to Wes Lunt. Jeff George Jr. wasn’t particularly bad for a freshman. He just doesn’t have any talent around him.

Maryland at Nebraska(-13.5): Ryker Fyfe played his best game ever. He honestly looked better throwing the ball than Tommy Armstrong did.

Wisconsin(-27.5) at Purdue: HIT! Yes, I am still surprised that Purdue scored 20 points. Perhaps more surprising was the fact that the Badgers still covered.

Virginia at Georgia Tech(-10.5): HIT! Buzz buzz. Buzz buzz. Channeling my inner John Belushi here.

Miami(FL)(-2.5) at North Carolina State: HIT! If the Hurricanes manage to find some consistency (and Brad Kaaya returns), then they could be the front runners in the ACC next year.

Florida at LSU(-13.5): MISS! The Gators got the last laugh. They earned the right to get slaughtered by Bama in the SEC title game.

Connecticut at Boston College(-7.5): MISS! Whoops!

Middle Tennessee State(-4.5): at Charlotte: MISS! I definitely knew better here.

Massachusetts at BYU(-28.5): MISS! UMass was actually up 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. Then the sky fell.

Oregon at Utah(-13.5): MISS! Utah just took a big hit in bowl seeding. The Ducks are hoping for someone to feel sorry for them and take them despite a losing record.

Georgia Southern(-2.5) at Georgia State: MISS! For the second straight year, the Panthers win this rivalry game when it didn’t look like they had a chance.

Louisiana-Monroe at Appalachian State(-25.5): MISS! And in the grand finale to a brutal afternoon slate, my seventh straight loss is by a stupid half point….

Duke at Pittsburgh(-7.5): HIT! I wish Pitt were a consistent team. I would have put more points on this one.

Florida State(-20.5) at Syracuse: HIT! Man, Dalvin Cook is a monster.

Buffalo at Western Michigan(-34.5): HIT! The Broncos woke up in the second half after a lethargic first.

Washington State at Colorado(-4.5): MISS! This was tough because I am a big fan of both teams this year. I expected more from the Cougars, but Liufau is impressive.

San Diego State(-9.5) at Wyoming: HIT! What a crazy game this was! I knew it was going to be a lot closer than this.

Virginia Tech at Notre Dame(EVEN): HIT! What a comeback by the Hokies! And another terrible choke job by the Irish. Is Brian Kelly in trouble?

Missouri at Tennessee(-16.5): MISS! Thanks for that fourth quarter meltdown, Mizzou! They stuck around for most of the game until they quit trying.

Temple(-14.5) at Tulane: HIT! Does 31 points count as a lot in college football anymore? At any rate, I’m taking the win.

Texas Tech(-3.5) at Iowa State: MISS! Holy Schlitz! Where in the world did that come from? I know Iowa State has been getting progressively better as the season goes on, but wow! This was impressive. The Cyclones scored their most points since 1980. This was also their largest conference win ever.

Texas(-24.5) at Kansas: HIT! I never expected Kansas to win this outright. This may be the straw that breaks Charlie Strong’s back. Giving Kansas its first conference win in 19 tries and losing to a team for the first time since 1938 is the kind of thing that loses jobs. Even worse than that is the fact that Texas was in control of the game for 3.5 quarters.

Indiana at Michigan(-24.5): HIT! This shouldn’t have surprised anyone. The Michigan offense got lucky with Speight at QB. The rest of them aren’t good enough to effectively run this offense.

Northwestern(-1.5) at Minnesota: MISS! This just shows why I picked the Gophers to win the Big Ten West. They are capable of games like this. They just aren’t consistent.

Navy(-7.5) at East Carolina: MISS! Ouch!

Utah State(-6.5) at Nevada: MISS! There is a reason that I only put one point on this mess.

Texas State at New Mexico State(-9.5): HIT! As if a minor bus accident on the way to the game wasn’t bad enough, the Bobcats lost by 40 once they got there.

Stanford(-10.5) at California: HIT! Stanford woke up. Better yet, they have a QB that can take the pressure off of Christian McCaffrey.

Southern Mississippi(-6.5) at North Texas: HIT! No matter what, this was a successful season for Southern Miss, even thought they collapsed at the end.

Old Dominion(-8.5) at Florida Atlantic: HIT! Old Dominion is going to be an interesting team to watch during bowl season.

Marshall(-2.5) at Florida International: HIT! Wow…..Marshall…..how the mighty, or even the not-so-mighty, have fallen.

Clemson(-22.5) at Wake Forest: HIT! The half goes my way. I need it!

Hawaii(-3.5) at Fresno State: HIT! If you would have told me that this was going to be a 14-13 game, my reply would have been “at the end of the first quarter?”

Arkansas at Mississippi State(-1.5): HIT! This line was bogus. I should have put five on it.

South Florida(-12.5) at SMU: HIT! Look out for SMU next year. They are going to be a fun team to watch.

Arizona State at Washington(-26.5): MISS! Damn you Sparky and that two point conversion!

Oklahoma(-3.5) at West Virginia: HIT! I really want to believe that Oklahoma is different this year. I really do. I know they aren’t. I will just get this out there. I don’t want any two loss team in the playoffs, not even mine. Why? Because that will break down the door for an eight team playoff. Four is plenty. We have essentially had playoff games for the last month. Don’t take this excitement away during the college football regular season.

Mississippi(-9.5) at Vanderbilt: MISS! Well…..okay then….

Penn State(-27.5) at Rutgers: HIT! Just another blowout for what may be the best team in the Big Ten(14)……

Tulsa at Central Florida(EVEN): HIT! I was expecting a better game, but a win is a win is a win.

New Mexico at Colorado State(-4.5): MISS! I guess I got too caught up in the New Mexico rushing attack. They can’t pass to save their lives.

Arizona at Oregon State(-5.5): MISS! Remember like three months ago when Arizona was supposed to be good? Many, including myself, thought that the Beavers would be the one with the 2-9 record at this point in the season.

USC(-13.5) at UCLA: HIT! Well, being the kings of LA lasted about two years for the Bruins. It’s better than nothing!

Air Force(-11.5) at San Jose State: MISS! Nice defense there Air Force…..

I went 33-25 this week to turn in my best week of the season. This makes me happier than it should, especially when you consider that my season total is still an ugly 294-345. The odds of me getting to .500 with only two full weeks and the bowls left are astronomical.

Did my point system finally finish in the black? It needs it as well! My season totals are in parentheses:

1. 3-4 (51-59) -8
2. 13-10 (114-111) +6
3. 12-7 (76-110) -102
4. 3-2 (39-39) 0
5. 2-3 (14-27) -65

I managed to gain 19 points this week, but I am still 169 down on the season and 46 down over my two years of doing this. A good week was once again trumped by my ineptitude at five point picks. I guess I should just stick to even numbers.
