DraftKings MLB Picks For May 19

14 of the 15 games are in the main DraftKings tournament. The matinee at Wrigley between the Cubs and Brewers is the only one missing. We have a few aces tonight, and way too many stacks that look great. Who am I after? Let’s dive into this!

More from DFS

The money line last night was a pathetic 86.55, the lowest of the season no matter what the size of the slate. More pathetic than that? Neither of my lineups made it! Julio Teheran dismantled one, and less than 20 points from my hitters dissected the other.

One person did guess right last night though. The winning lineup still had 195.85 points, nearly 20 points more than second place! He had Sonny Gray and Marcus Stroman, the two best pitchers. He also had Jarrod Dyson‘s big night and five more homers from his hitters.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

DraftKings
May 8, 2017; New York City, NY, USA; New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (48) pitches against the San Francisco Giants during the first inning at Citi Field. Mandatory Credit: Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

P: Jacob deGrom ($11,100): deGrom doesn’t have much of a history against the Angels, but it is a dominant one. They are hitting just .182 off of him in 44 at bats with just one run and ten strikeouts. Of course, the caveat here is that he has not faced Mike Trout or Albert Pujols, so it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. However, he should dominate most of the lineup, and is in for a sure win opposite Ricky Nolasco. That is why I’m fading Chris Sale. Well, and the fact that the A’s are hitting .285 against him in 130 at bats with three homers and 18 runs scored.

P: Jeremy Hellickson ($7,100): Hellickson has held the Pirates to a .111 average in 45 at bats with no runs and 11 strikeouts. Not surprisingly, Hellickson has a 1.69 ERA in PNC Park. This is a lineup that he has dominated so far, and with the way they have struggled most of the year, there is no reason for Hellickson not to do so again.

C: Kurt Suzuki ($2,500): This is a solid punt play in an expensive lineup. I really want to pay up for deGrom, but I want a little bit of pop on this team. I have been undone by too many lineups without it. So is it really bad to roll the dice on a guy who hits righties well and is 2-3 lifetime against Gio Gonzalez? Now I just have to hope he starts. If not, stay tuned to Twitter for my retooled lineups.

1B: Chris Davis ($4,600): Aaron Sanchez may be the brightest young pitcher Toronto has had since Roy Halladay, but Davis treats him like Aaron Sele (4.61 career ERA). Davis is 8-18(.444) with ten walks, two doubles, four homers, seven runs scored, and five RBI off of Sanchez. Talented or not, Davis has his number.

2B: Neil Walker ($3,900): Walker is 5-16(.312) with a double, a homer, two runs scored, and two RBI in his career against Ricky Nolasco. The Mets that he does have a history against have hit him hard. The others should follow suit.

3B: Jedd Gyorko ($3,700): Matt Moore has turned in some good starts this year, but he has still turned in a few clunkers. All of those were on the road. Guess where he is tonight? That’s right. St Louis. Moore’s ERA is an astonishing 10.50 ERA in four road starts. A Cardinals stack may not be a bad idea, especially with the right handed power in that lineup.

SS: Jose Reyes ($3,700): Few hitters who aren’t known for power ever rack up the lines that Reyes has against Ricky Nolasco. He is 18-53(.340) with three walks, a double, a triple, four homers, four steals, ten runs scored, and six RBI against Nolasco. Reyes will definitely be in my arcade mode lineup due to the extra points for a homer and a steal!

OF: Jay Bruce ($4,600): Surprise, surprise. Bruce has hit Nolasco hard as well. He is 5-18(.278) with a walk, a double, two homers, three runs scored, four RBI, and even a steal against him. Bruce should find himself in a prime position to drive in some runs tonight.

OF: Michael Conforto ($4,500): Though he has never faced Nolasco himself, his teammates are hitting .287 off of him in 108 at bats with seven homers and 16 runs. The Mets are going to score early and often tonight, and I want a lot of exposure to this lineup.

OF: Corey Dickerson ($4,200): Dickerson is 3-5 with two walks, a double, a homer, and three RBI in his career against Luis Severino. Dickerson’s hot hitting continues, so I am willing to take a shot on him doing it again. His price is likely lower than it should be.

May 12, 2017; Cleveland, OH, USA; Minnesota Twins third baseman Miguel Sano (22) hits a home run during the first inning against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. Mandatory Credit: Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

P: Luis Severino ($8,800): The Rays are only hitting .235 with 17 strikeouts in 51 at bats against Severino. They have homered three times, but it’s hard to ignore those huge strikeout numbers. Erasmo Ramirez actually has much better numbers against the Yankees, but they have five homers off of him in 86 at bats. That signals that a slide could be coming. I am all over the strikeout potential of Severino tonight.

More from FanSided

P: Taijuan Walker ($8,400): Walker has held the Padres to a .205 average in 39 at bats with just one home run, three runs, and a whopping 12 strikeouts. This game is at spacious Petco Park as well, which adds to Walker’s already great looking potential for tonight.

C: Salvador Perez ($3,400): Perez is only 4-22(.182) lifetime against Hector Santiago, but he has three walks, a double, and two solo homers off of him. If those odds aren’t good enough for you, Brian McCann is worth a shot at the same price against Trevor Bauer.

1B: Paul Goldschmidt ($5,200): Goldschmidt is an impressive 4-6 with a walk, a double, a homer, three runs scored, and three RBI against the struggling Jered Weaver. The reclamation hasn’t worked so far since he has a 6.05 ERA. His ERA is even worse than that at home!

2B: Adam Frazier ($3,000): Frazier has been exactly what the Pirates have needed since the loss of Starling Marte. He has done very well in the leadoff slot. I don’t expect big things from the Pirates here, but all it takes is him getting on base once for this gamble to pay off.

3B: Miguel Sano ($4,600): Nate Karns is having himself a good year, but Sano has punished him. Sano has only faced Karns four times. He has come away with a walk, a triple, a homer, two runs scored, and six RBI. That’s right. SIX! Sano has more RBI than plate appearances against Karns. I’m a Twins fan. I have to go with a stat like this!

SS: Chris Owings ($4,100): Owings is 2-5 against Weaver so far. Both of the hits are home runs. A Diamondback “stack” in the arcade mode is in order too, even though you can only use two players from one team.

OF: Jose Bautista ($4,600): Bautista is 12-45(.267) with eight walks, four doubles, three homers, seven runs scored, and seven RBI in his career against Chris Tillman. Tillman has had a good run of it so far, but with numbers like this, I’m still taking Bautista to get his.

OF: Yasmany Tomas ($4,000): Tomas is 3-6 already against Jered Weaver. All of the hits have gone for extra bases! He has a double, two homers, and four RBI. Just to recap, Weaver has a 6.05 ERA. Petco Park? His ERA there is 9.69!

OF: Jayson Werth ($3,800): A few players have figured out R.A. Dickey‘s knuckleball. Werth is definitely one of them. He is 13-27(.481) with five walks, three doubles, two homers, seven runs scored, and four RBI against him in his career. The Nats as a whole are hitting .287 lifetime against Dickey. A Nats stack is not a bad idea if you can find a suitable place to skimp on pitching. They are expensive!
