DraftKings MLB Picks For May 26

We only have 14 games in our main DraftKings tournament tonight. Wait….the Cubs are in here, so it’s not a matinee at Wrigley. What gives? Well, DraftKings finally answered the conundrum about what to do with doubleheaders. Just act like they don’t exist! You wont see any Tigers or White Sox players on here because of the twin bill. There goes one of my favorite stacks! Oh well, we still have plenty more to choose from. Where should we spend tonight?

More from DFS

The money line last night was down to 113.55 due to the short slate. I fell short because of Michael Wacha in one and Justin Verlander in the other.

The winning lineupĀ was a tie at 201.45 DraftKings points. Both winners took Drew Pomeranz with Ray and stacked the Houston-Detroit game.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

May 20, 2017; Houston, TX, USA; Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Mike Clevinger (52) pitches against the Houston Astros in the first inning at Minute Maid Park. Mandatory Credit: Thomas B. Shea-USA TODAY Sports

P: Jacob deGrom ($12,100): Hmmm….deGrom or Scherzer….Scherzer or deGrom? Luckily for you, they have almost the same past history when it comes to times facing their opponent tonight. Scherzer has faced the Padres 50 times. deGrom has seen the Pirates 51 times. Scherzer had 15 strikeouts, deGrom has 14. The averages are nearly identical. The separation comes from Scherzer surrendering three homers to the Padres while deGrom hasn’t given up any to Pittsburgh. deGrom also gets a better park to pitch in. I’m taking deGrom!

P:Ā Mike ClevingerĀ ($8,000): The Royals have been dreadful against Clevinger so far in his young career. They are hitting just .138 against him in 29 at bats with just a homer and two RBI – by Alcides Escobar of all people – and a whopping 19 strikeouts. You may not have to break the bank for deGrom or Scherzer to get a dominant pitchingĀ performance tonight!

C:Ā Derek NorrisĀ ($2,700): So, I know that Norris only has three singles and two walks in 14 at bats against Hector Santiago. I want to spend at other positions, and righties have been known to hit Santiago hard. I’m throwing this dart toĀ afford my pitchers.

1B: Kendrys Morales ($3,900): Morales has four hits in 10 at bats against A.J. Griffin with three walks, three runs scored, and a solo homer. Griffin has pitched well so far this year, and could here as well, but I would bet that Morales reaches base at least once.

2B:Ā JonathanĀ SchoopĀ ($3,300): How’s this for past performance? The Orioles are 10-19 against Joe Musgrove. 10-19! Schoop himself has singled twice and scored twice. J.J. Hardy has blasted two homers off of him, but I elected to go with Gregorius instead. An Oriole stack may not be a bad idea tonight. I’m not stacking, but I am getting my exposure with Schoop.

3B:Ā Maikel FrancoĀ ($3,800): Franco has only faced Tim Adleman three times. He came away with a double and a run scored. This is also a hitter’s park, which bodes well for a repeat performance or better for Franco. I want some exposure to this game, but the Phillies offense isn’t exactly a well-oiled machine. Franco seems to be the safest place to get it.

SS: Didi Gregorius ($4,100): Gregorius is only 2-7 against Kendall Graveman, but he has hit a home run off of him. This is also in Yankee Stadium, a ballpark that helps out left handed power. This could be a high scoring game, even with Tanaka on the hill.

OF:Ā Charlie BlackmonĀ ($5,500): Carlos Martinez is a really good young pitcher, but he also owns a 5.54 ERA in two starts and a relief appearance at Coors Field. The kicker? He won both of those starts. I am stopping short of a stack, but I want the hot Rockies leadoff hitter in there. Blackmon is 4-11 with a double and two runs scored off of Martinez so far.

OF: Matt Kemp ($4,200): I’m laying off of Matt Adams since everyone else is on him, and AT&T Park isn’t exactly a hitter’s paradise. The exception may be Kemp. Kemp is 15-61(.246) with five walks, five doubles, a triple, four homers, nine runs scored, and six RBI in his career against Matt Cain. Kemp owns a career .276 average in AT&T Park. He looks very safe tonight.

OF: Mike Morse ($2,300): Morse could beĀ a sneaky play provided he sneaks into the lineup. Morse is 5-15 with two walks, a double, a homer, three runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Jaime Garcia. He has more than enough power to hit it out even here. I will take a chance on him getting into one for this bargain price!

May 21, 2017; Chicago, IL, USA; Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta (49) throws the ball against the Milwaukee Brewers during the first inning at Wrigley Field. Mandatory Credit: David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

P: Jake Arrieta ($9,200): Arrieta has struggled this year, but over his career he has held the Dodgers to a .119 average, and the current roster is hitting just .188 off of him with a homer and two RBI. Oh, and they have 11 strikeouts in 48 at bats. Arrieta also gets a park upgrade to Dodger Stadium, a place where he has a 2.57 ERA in two starts. One of which wasĀ a shutout! This looks like a value price for Arrieta tonight.

P: Eduardo Rodriguez ($8,800): It’s time for a Boston stack against Yovani Gallardo! Yes, I am even going as far as to stack the pitcher! Rodriguez allowed only two runs in his only career start against Seattle while striking out four. Most of Seattle’s power comes from the left side, so Rodriguez takes that away. Rodrguez’s inflated ERA at Fenway is a bit of a concern, but it hasn’t affected him this year. He actually owns a 2.38 ERA at home this year!

C:Ā Juan CentenoĀ ($2,200): Okay, there is no basis to this other than the fact that the Astros seem committed to starting Centeno at catcher with Brian McCann out. The early returns are great. Centeno has homered twice, including off of Justin Verlander, since Sunday. I will take a chance on him getting another for this price!

1B: Wil Myers ($3,500): Hey, don’t laugh. Myers has done what few have been able to do: hit Max Scherzer. Myers is 4-9 with a double, a steal, three runs scored, and two solo homers against the Washington ace. Don’t expect a lot of RBI or anything like that, but I love Myers’ depressed price with a solid history against Scherzer.

2B: Dustin Pedroia ($4,300): Pedroia is 7-18(.389) with a double, four runs scored, and a solo homer against Yovani Gallardo. I know, you’re waiting for the good part, right? As if that isn’t enough to consider Pedroia at this price, my basis for the stack comes from this little nugget: Gallardo hasĀ a 6.41 ERA in four starts at Fenway Park.

3B: Trevor Plouffe ($3,300): Plouffe is 3-9 with a double and two runs scored against Masahiro Tanaka. I know what you’re thinking. The numbers aren’t that great. However, I am playing off the fact that Tanaka’s season ERA is dangerously close to 7, and Plouffe is a career .313 hitter at Yankee Stadium. He has also blasted four homers in just 48 at bats!

SS: Xander Bogaerts ($4,900): Bogaerts is 4-12 with a walk, a double, two runs scored, and two RBI in his career against Gallardo. He is also starting to flash more power this year, and that Green Monster is pretty close. Bogaerts has more than enough to knock it over that once or twice!

OF: Mike Trout ($5,500): I get that the Angels will be without the DH and in a park that isn’t conducive to power, but Trout is immune to all of that. He is also 9-19(.474) with two doubles, a homer, five runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Dan Straily. I doubt that Trout has forgotten how to hit Straily since he was with Oakland.

OF: Mookie Betts ($5,200): Mookie is 4-12 with a homer, two runs scored, and four RBI against Yovani Gallardo already. This Red Sox stack is expensive, but it will likely be worth it. Gallardo may as well be throwing batting practice at Fenway.

OF: Kole Calhoun ($3,100): I am staying away from Albert Pujols because I have a feeling that he wont play most of this series. However, if he is in there, Pujols himself is not a bad pick. Calhoun is 3-7 with a walk, a double, a homer, three runs scored, and a pair or RBI against Straily. Calhoun likely wont leave the park tonight, but considering the Angels own a .354 average against Straily in 65 at bats, he should have plenty of opportunities to score runs or drive them in.
