DraftKings MLB Picks For May 30

We only have 14 games in our main DraftKings tournament tonight. Wait….the Cubs are in here, so it’s not a matinee at Wrigley. What gives? Well, another early start in Cleveland will keep two sleeper pitchers, Sonny Gray and Trevor Bauer, out of the DraftKings tournaments today. Oh well, we still have plenty of pitchers to choose from. Should we pay for Sale on the South Side? Let’s hit some stats and find out!

More from DFS

The money line last night was way up at 130.7, and there were just five games! My lineup missed with a solid score of 104.35. I got two solid starts, but not enough offense as I didn’t have a piece of the Astros, and only one Blue Jay (Jose Bautista).

The winning lineup was an eight place tie for first, but it was all the same user. He had the same pitchers that I did in Marcus Stroman and Julio Teheran, but he stacked Blue Jays and Rangers to take down the tournament.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

May 24, 2017; Boston, MA, USA; Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale (41) delivers a pitch during the fourth inning against the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park. Mandatory Credit: Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

P: Chris Sale ($13,400): Sale has only faced two of his former teammates, Avisail Garcia and Melky Cabrera. They are a combined 2-14 against him. It will be an emotional night for Sale back on the South Side, but I don’t think that works against him. Sale has a career 3.01 ERA in New Comiskey/US Cellular Field in 578 innings. On top of that, he will be facing a lineup that is worse than most of the ones he faced there. Sale should be worth the price upgrade tonight.

P: Matt Andriese ($7,600): I really wanted to go with Jose Berrios and his sizzling 0.55 WHIP in three starts this year, but after seeing what Houston did to Ervin Santana yesterday, I am going with a little more sure option in Andriese. He has given up two homers in 35 at bats to the Rangers, but only three runs. He is also 5-1 with a 3.24 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 58.1 innings pitching for a below average team. This is not a fluke.

C: Salvador Perez ($3,300): Perez is 23-52(.442) with eight doubles, two homers, five runs scored, and a whopping 14 RBI in his career against Justin Verlander. Perez has hit Verlander harder than just about anyone else. He should be well worth the price tonight!

1B: Eric Hosmer ($3,600): Hosmer has also hit Verlander well. I am opting for him over the struggling Eric Thames, who hasn’t had an extra base hit since May 15th. Hosmer is 20-77(.260) with five walks, five doubles, a triple, two homers, 12 runs scored, and five RBI against Verlander. All of that at this price is too good to pass up.

2B: Eric Sogard ($3,100): I originally was going to go with a Brewers stack against Tyler Pill, but considering a lot of their lefties are struggling, that stack got whittled to one: Sogard. The other shoe has yet to fall for Sogard, who is hitting .419 still, but I doubt that happens tonight against Pill. He is a low priced option that could have a very nice game.

3B: Maikel Franco ($3,300): Franco is 3-7 with a homer and three RBI in his career against Justin Nicolino. While it is true that Marlins Park is not conducive to power, Franco is one of the few threats that the Phillies have, and I want some exposure to Nicolino.

SS: JT Riddle ($2,600): Riddle has filled in nicely for Adeiny Hechavarria. He has averaged 9.2 DraftKings points per game over the last ten games. That is a steal at this price, especially against a talented but struggling Vince Velasquez.

OF: J.D. Martinez ($5,200): The Royals are throwing rookie left hander Eric Skoglund out there tonight, so I will take any Detroit righty I can find. I can’t afford Miguel Cabrera, and honestly, there are better options at first base, but Martinez is is still cooking with eight homers and 17 RBI in 17 games this year. Count me in!

OF: Justin Upton ($4,100): Upton has struggled at times in the Motor City, but he still has the most power potential on this team outside of J.D. Martinez. I will take a shot on him against a rookie.

OF: Christian Yelich ($3,800): Yelich is only 3-11 against Vince Velasquez, but all three hits have gone for extra bases. He has a triple and two homers with four RBI in his career against Velasquez. Yelich looks like a bargain at that price.

DraftKings
May 14, 2017; Phoenix, AZ, USA; Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt (44) hits a solo home run in the fifth inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Chase Field. Mandatory Credit: Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

P: Robbie Ray ($9,600): Ray’s past stats against Pittsburgh are rather awful. The Pirates are hitting .356 against him in 45 at bats with two homers, five runs, and seven strikeouts. The peripherals aren’t nearly as bad as the average suggests, especially considering Ray has walked five as well. However, Ray has a stellar 0.81 ERA and 0.84 WHIP on the road this year over five starts. PNC Park is a pitcher’s park and the Pirates are a mess on offense right now. Is this the day that Ray puts a dent in his career 5.73 ERA at PNC Park? I think it is!

More from FanSided

P: Gio Gonzalez ($8,200): I really considered J.A. Happ here at the same price due to his good stats against the Reds, but this is his first start off of the disabled list. I will go with Gio, who sports a 2.90 ERA on the year and a 2.94 career ERA against the Giants in 11 starts.

C: Martin Maldonado ($2,100): Bartolo Colon has been miserable this year, and it is likely that facing an Angels team without star Mike Trout wont help much. Maldonado is a cheap bat to throw at a struggling pitcher based on his .262 season average and 43 DraftKings points over his last four games.

1B: Paul Goldschmidt ($5,300): Goldie is 3-6 with two homers and three RBI in his career against Ivan Nova so far. Nova has been outstanding in the National League thus far, but Goldschmidt just has his number.

2B: Neil Walker ($4,100): Walker is 2-8 with a walk, two runs scored, and a solo homer against Zach Davies. Walker has been on fire lately, and this is a great chance to keep it up!

3B: Manny Machado ($4,200): Only two Orioles have managed to figure out Luis Severino so far. As a team, they are hitting just .229 against him in 77 at bats. Machado and Trumbo are a combined 8-19 with all five homers and eight of the nine RBI that Baltimore has off of Severino. Machado’s depressed price and his three homers and five RBI off Severino have me taking the chance tonight.

SS: Andrelton Simmons ($3,600): Who will pick up the slack with Trout out? Will Mike Scioscia mess with the top two slots in the order that have been brilliant since their moves to the top? I doubt that. Simmons and Maybin may not see as many runs scored, but they are definitely worth using against Colon tonight. Want more proof? Simmons is 12-23(.522) with five RBI in his career against Colon.

OF: Cameron Maybin ($4,900): Maybin sports a .874 OPS in May, and that includes the stretch before he became the leadoff hitter May 17th in which he had been moved down in the lineup. Maybin has scored DraftKings points in every game atop the Halo’s lineup. That wont change against Colon.

OF: Matt Kemp ($4,000): Parker Bridwell is making his major league debut against the Braves tonight. Kemp is the most established hitter the Braves have, and has two homers and 10 RBI in 80 at bats at Angels Stadium. I don’t want to move off of Goldschmidt, otherwise I would go with Matt Adams as well.

OF: Mark Trumbo ($3,900): Trumbo’s salary is also depressed against Luis Severino. Trumbo is 4-8 with a walk, a double, two homers, three runs scored, and three RBI against him. It looks like Trumbo is well worth his salary tonight.
