DraftKings Main MLB Picks For June 14

There are 11 games in the main DraftKings tournament, and a couple of aces, or pitchers priced like aces, taking the hill. Are any of them worth using? Let’s check out some past stats!

More from DFS

The money line last night was down to 114.85, but that was still high enough to keep me out. I stacked the wrong side in the Mariners stack, and Buck Farmer had me uttering a word that rhymes with his first name several times during his terrible outing against Arizona.

The winning lineup was all the way up to 240.85. His Twins stack paid off huge, capped by Eddie Rosario‘s 49 DraftKings points.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Jun 9, 2017; San Francisco, CA, USA; Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Ervin Santana (54) pitches against the San Francisco Giants in the second inning at AT&T Park. Mandatory Credit: John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Ervin Santana ($10,300): Santana has really only had one bad outing all year. It was at home against the Angels two starts ago. In fact, his ERA at home this year is 2.63, which is nearly a run higher than his road ERA. Of course, when you are dealing with numbers like that, you will take all of them. However, the current Mariners have had some success against Santana. They are hitting .289 with 11 homers and 21 RBI in 142 at bats. I am going based on this season’s data alone. Don’t worry. I am using Mariners in the other lineup just in case.

P: Jake Odorizzi ($7,900): Odorizzi has held the Blue Jays to an awful .157 batting average in 166 at bats, but he has allowed eight home runs. That said, there hasn’t really been anyone on base when those were hit. If you are gambling for homers, the Jays are solid picks, but they will be all or nothing. I will take Odorizzi and his history, along with the 38 strikeouts he has posted, and be happy.

C: Brian McCann ($4,400): McCann is only 3-11 with three singles and a walk against Andrew Cashner, and no other counting stats. However, Cashner surrendered five runs and 11 hits in six innings to the Astros on June 3rd. McCann rested in that one. I’m curious to see what he can do in more hitter-friendly Minute Maid Park.

1B: Matt Carpenter ($3,800): Carpenter is 6-15 with a walk, two doubles, and two solo homers in his career against Zach Davies. The Cardinals as a whole are hitting .322 with five homers and nine runs in 87 at bats off of Davies, so a Cardinals stack is not a bad idea and is one of the cheaper ones available tonight.

2B: Brandon Drury ($3,700): Michael Fulmer has had his start pushed back to the weekend. That means the Diamondbacks will get to tee off on Jordan Zimmerman tonight. Zimmerman has been better lately, but I want some exposure to him. Drury is a good place to start. He homered twice against Milwaukee over the weekend, and is hitting .284 on the season.

3B: Jedd Gyorko ($3,500): Gyorko is 9-13(.692) with two walks, three doubles, a homer, two runs scored, and a RBI in his career against Zach Davies. There are a lot of really good options at third base tonight. Jake Lamb, Evan Longoria, and Josh Donaldson all have great histories against tonight’s opponent, but it’s hard to pass up Gyorko’s stats at this price.

SS: Aledmys Diaz ($3,200): The price is also right on Diaz. He is 4-9 with a solo homer and a steal against Davies in his career. He still comes at quite a discount, and is a nice addition to my Cardinals stack.

OF: Nomar Mazara ($4,600): Many will stack Astros against Andrew Cashner, and I understand why. I am going the other direction, stacking Ranger lefties against rookie Francis Martes. Martes gave up four runs in 3.2 innings of relief in his major league debut last Friday against the Angels. Mazara has 77 DraftKings points in his last seven games. He could have a great night against Martes.

OF: Shin-soo Choo ($4,400): Choo is showing signs of breaking out of his season-long slump. He has racked up 54 DraftKings points in his last four games, hitting two homers in that span. He has a great chance to get to Martes as well.

OF: David Peralta ($4,000): Peralta continues to punish right handed pitchers. Especially average right handed pitchers. He could be a serious bargain at this price.

Jun 1, 2017; Cleveland, OH, USA; Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Corey Kluber (28) throws a pitch during the third inning against the Oakland Athletics at Progressive Field. Mandatory Credit: Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Corey Kluber ($12,500): There is no way I trust Michael Pineda, even against the Angels. They are hitting .275 with three homers and seven RBI in just 41 at bats, and in his only start at the Big A, Pineda was drilled for seven runs in five innings. Did I mention that he has a 5.96 road ERA this year? Kluber doesn’t have quite the strikeout upside, but the current Dodgers are only 7-30 off of him with a two run homer by Logan Forsythe being the only damage. I trust Kluber at home far more than Pineda on the road.

P: Mike Leake ($6,800): Leake has a brilliant 2.46 ERA at home this season, and he gets to face a Brewers offense that hasn’t done a whole lot against him in his career. They are only hitting .179 with just one homer (by Nick Franklin) and three runs scored while striking out 11 times in 28 at bats. The bloated strikeout totals could hold against the free-swinging Brewers.

C: Mike Zunino ($3,800): I touched on the brilliance of Ervin Santana this year earlier, but just in case he gets knocked around at home again, I have the ones most likely to do it. The past stats back it up. Zunino is 2-4 with a walk, a solo homer, and two runs scored against Santana in his career.

1B: Jose Abreu ($4,200): Abreu is 5-7 with a double and a solo homer in his career so far against Dylan Bundy. I couldn’t find a way to pay up for Paul Goldschmidt and still keep the core of my roster intact, so I will save the money and roll with Abreu.

2B: Robinson Cano ($4,000): Cano has absolutely embarrassed Ervin Santana in his career. Cano is 14-42(.333) with three walks, two doubles, six homers, ten runs scored, and 12 RBI off of him. Those are some huge numbers! If the Mariners get to Santana at all, Cano will be involved!

3B: Yunel Escobar ($3,100): Escobar is 7-18(.389) with two walks, a double, two homers, five runs scored, and six RBI in his career against Michael Pineda. Pineda was awful in his only other start in this stadium, though it will be harder for him to be awful with Mike Trout out. Still, Escobar is batting cleanup with a great history against tonight’s pitcher, and he is still this cheap. Count me in!

SS: Francisco Lindor ($4,000): Lindor had not made his major league debut yet when Brandon McCarthy was still toiling in the American League. The current Indians are hitting .257 off of him with four homers and ten RBI in only 70 at bats. There is a good chance that Lindor contributes to the party tonight.

OF: Nelson Cruz ($4,500): Cruz is 13-43(.302) with two walks, a double, three homers, ten runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Santana. He has even stolen a base! Don’t expect Nellie to be running tonight, but he could be scoring!

OF: Gregor Blanco ($3,600): Blanco has been leading off against right handed pitchers, and doing a good job with A.J. Pollock out. He is worth a shot at this price against Jordan Zimmerman.

OF: Carlos Beltran ($3,500): Beltran is 4-7 with a double, a homer, and four RBI in his career against Andrew Cashner. This could be a high scoring affair with 21 year old Francis Martes making his first major league start and Cashner facing off. The Astros have hit .291 against Cashner in 86 at bats, but as usual, they are very expensive and hard to fit into the budget. Beltran however, is priced just right!
