DraftKings MLB Picks For June 16

We have a full 15 game slate in the DraftKings tournament tonight. We have aces in action. Is there a way to go cheap on pitching? Let’s check out what our lineups look like either way!

More from DFS

The money line was pretty high on a short slate at 127.65 DraftKings points. A terrible start by Michael Wacha doomed my closest lineup. Both lineups had solid point totals, but solid didn’t cut it tonight.

The winning lineup wasn’t that high. It barely cracked 200 at 201.65. He gambled and won big on Nick Pivetta and got lucky on a hodgepodge of hitters highlighted by 1.1% owned Alex Gordon‘s 24 points.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

DraftKings
May 23, 2017; Houston, TX, USA; Houston Astros center fielder Jake Marisnick (6) slides to score a run against the Detroit Tigers at Minute Maid Park. Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Max Scherzer ($12,900): At first glance, Scherzer’s numbers against the Mets aren’t worth his price. They are hitting .252 against him in 131 at bats with seven homers (three by Michael Conforto, so he could be worth a flier if he starts) and 11 RBI with 46 strikeouts. You know that the added strikeout potential is there with Scherzer. However, another little piece that I found interesting is his career ERA at Citi Field. It is noted as a hitter’s park, but Scherzer has a 1.90 ERA in seven career starts there. He should be worth the price tonight.

P: Sean Newcomb ($6,500): Newcomb dazzled in his debut against the Mets, giving up just one unearned run in 6.1 innings at SunTrust Park. The Marlins have some left handed power, but Newcomb will hold a significant platoon advantage there. The only real worry in this lineup is Giancarlo Stanton. Newcomb is priced right to take another shot on the rookie before the league figures him out.

C: Cameron Rupp ($2,200): Right handed hitters are hitting .332 against Corbin in 238 at bats this season with 11 home runs. Now Corbin comes into a hitter’s park to face a lineup loaded with right handed bats. Rupp is way too cheap at this price, and honestly, so are most of his teammates. If you can stomach stacking a hit and miss offense like the Phillies, it could pay off big tonight. But it is still the Phillies. There is risk involved.

1B: Kendrys Morales ($3,700): Morales is 13-38(.342) with a walk, three doubles, two homers, three runs scored, and nine RBI in his career against Jose Quintana. Most of that damage was done when the two shared a division, but Morales has proven he can hit Quintana. He looks like a bargain at this price!

2B: Eric Sogard ($3,700): Sogard has been leading off against right handed pitchers lately, and he gets an inexperienced one tonight in Miguel Diaz. Sogard is hitting an impressive .367 at hom this year, and has 64 DraftKings points in four games against the Padres this year……and those were in Petco Park! He could be a huge bargain tonight!

3B: Josh Donaldson ($4,700): Donaldson is 5-11(.455) with a walk, a double, a solo homer, and two runs scored in his career against Jose Quintana. Quintana has had ups and downs for most of the season, but Donaldson still looks too cheap here. Then again, Jose Quintana has a career 0.68 ERA in four starts at Rogers Centre.

SS: Jose Reyes ($2,900): Yes, I know he is facing my pitcher, but Reyes is 7-23(.304) in his career against Scherzer with a walk, a double, four runs scored, and a RBI. It’s worth taking the chance to see if he can get a hit at this price. The landscape is pretty barren when you are looking at this price range.

OF: Aaron Judge ($5,500): It feels like it could be a good day when you can slot the most dangerous hitter in with the ace of the day in the same lineup. Judge has only faced Sean Manaea three times. He has come away with two singles, but he is still leading the A.L. in home runs and Manaea has struggled with the long ball at times this year. That said, he has only allowed one home run at home. On the other hand, Judge is averaging a ridiculous 12.1 DraftKings points per game. He is worth the money any time you can afford him.

OF: Cody Bellinger ($4,800): Bellinger has only faced Tim Adleman twice. He homered off of him for his only hit. This is a ballpark that enhances left handed power. Like Bellinger needs any help! Oh well, us DFS players are happy to take any extra advantage we can find.

OF: Jake Marisnick ($3,100): Marisnick is 4-10 with a triple, two homers, a steal, four runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Drew Pomeranz. While many of our peers will be paying extra for the likes of George Springer and Carlos Correa, the stats say that Marisnick is just as likely to give us value at $2,000 less!

DraftKings
Jun 10, 2017; Bronx, NY, USA; New York Yankees pitcher Luis Severino (40) pitches against the Baltimore Orioles during the first inning at Yankee Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Luis Severino ($11,500): The dominant outing by Carlos Martinez in his last start will steer many towards him, but Martinez has a 5.10 ERA in five road starts. Severino’s splits are much better. He owns a 2.17 ERA on the road and a 3.32 home ERA at one of the better hitter’s parks around. Severino is rounding into the staff ace, and the A’s don’t have a lot of punch in the lineup to stop him. If you are fading Scherzer, Severino is easily the best second option.

More from FanSided

P: Alex Wood ($9,100): Wood has been dominant this season. Most of the Reds’ power comes from the left side, so Wood really only has to worry about Eugenio Suarez and Devin Mesoraco from the right side in this one. He was brilliant in his first start back from the disabled list. I see no reason not to use Wood. I trust him more than Carlos Carrasco‘s ERA above 4 at Target Field or James Paxton in Texas.

C: Yan Gomes ($2,900): Nik Turley surrendered four runs in four innings in his major league debut in San Francisco, a noted pitcher’s park. He will make his first home start tonight, where recent games have looked more like football scores than baseball scores. Gomes is a good hitter against lefties, and all Cleveland right handers are in play here. An Indians stack could pay off against the rookie and against one of the worst bullpens in the majors.

1B: Chris Carter ($2,900): Carter is only 2-5 against Sean Manaea, but both hits are home runs and he has driven in five. Carter is a huge bargain at this price, even in the cavernous Coliseum. I’ve spent far more on longer shots than this before!

2B: Jose Pirela ($3,800): Junior Guerra continues to pitch well, but until someone proves that they can get Jose Pirela out, I am going to keep using him. He is hitting .441 with two homers and seven RBI in just 34 at bats! Even though his price has jumped quite a bit, Pirela can still be a bargain at this range.

3B: Yunel Escobar ($3,300): Escobar is still the cheapest cleanup hitter you will find anywhere, and he is facing off against a pitcher that has given up 11 homers in 11 starts this year. The Angels offense is adapting to life without Mike Trout, and actually scores more runs than you may think. Escobar looks like a steal here against Ian Kennedy.

SS: Corey Seager ($4,800): Can we agree that the Reds’ pitchers are mostly bad? Okay, with that out of the way, let’s get to the real reason that I am going with Seager against Tim Adleman (and whomever else they may throw out there): Seager is hitting .692 with a homer and five RBI in 13 at bats in Great American Ballpark. Good luck containing that!

OF: Ben Gamel ($4,200): Matt Adams has been chalk lately at SunTrust Park, and I understand why. That’s why I’m avoiding it here. I will instead move to Gamel, who has five straight multi-hit games. Yes, even against Jose Berrios. He looks very safe against Tyson Ross, who is making his first start of the year.

OF: Nick Markakis ($3,700): Markakis is 2-6 with a walk, a double, a homer, two runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Dan Straily. Straily strikes out a lot of batters, but he gives up his share of runs as well. He has an awful 5.91 ERA on the road. All Braves lefties are in play once again!

OF: Kole Calhoun ($3,800): Ian Kennedy has been plagued by home runs this year, but Angels Stadium is called “The Big A” for a reason. It’s huge! With Mike Trout still out, Calhoun is one of the few power threats in this lineup. I will take chance that he gets one off of Kennedy. Kennedy has allowed at least one home run in every start since April 16th, which just happened to be against the Angels. Calhoun was mired in the worst slump of his career at that time though.
