DraftKings MLB Picks For June 20

We have a full 15 game slate tonight with plenty of good pitching options out there. Is this a night to fade the aces and go cheap to pay for bats? Let’s see what the stats say!

More from DFS

The money line was at 117.95 last night. My Kershaw lineup missed because of no offense. Even my lineup led by the outstanding Corey Kluber missed because of a lack of offense. Only Taylor Motter scored in double figures.

The winning lineup was all the way up to 222.6 points. He used my pitchers, Kluber and Brad Peacock, as a solid foundation. His Dodger stack led by Cody Bellinger put him over the top.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

DraftKings
Jun 14, 2017; Minneapolis, MN, USA; Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Ervin Santana (54) delivers a pitch in the first inning against the Seattle Mariners at Target Field. Mandatory Credit: Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Ervin Santana ($10,400): Santana has had a couple of ugly outings recently, sandwiched with a shutout of the Giants in between. His ERA is 3.23 at home, which is still very good. There is hope for this one because Santana has faced the White Sox twice already this year. He has only given up three hits in 15 innings with no runs and 12 strikeouts. One of those was a complete game shutout. Santana is worth the risk tonight.

P: Brandon McCarthy ($6,400): The current Mets have only faced McCarthy 19 times, but they have just three hits, all singles, to show for it while striking out four times. McCarthy has a 1.91 ERA and 0.88 WHIP since a six run implosion against the Giants back on May 15th. He is pitching about as well as anyone right now. The Mets are a solid team and will likely get a few runs, but I like McCarthy’s chances of outpitching this very low price.

C: Gary Sanchez ($4,900): Sanchez has five homers in the last eight games, and is facing a right hander with very little starting experience. This is Parker Bridwell‘s first trip to Yankee Stadium, and it could be a short one for him. Sanchez will be one of the guys trying to send him to an early shower.

1B: Edwin Encarnacion ($4,700): Encarnacion is starting to find his groove in Cleveland. He has five homers and ten RBI in his last five games. He has also hit Chris Tillman well in his career. Encarnacion is 17-58(.293) with four walks, three doubles, three homers, ten runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Tillman.

2B: Jason Kipnis ($3,900): Kipnis has also hit Tillman well. He is 4-14(.286) against Tillman with four walks, a double, two homers, three runs scored, and four RBI in his career. Kipnis is struggling some this year, but the price is right to take a chance on him breaking out tonight.

3B: Yunel Escobar ($3,100): Surprisingly, Michael Pineda has not pitched well against the Angels. The active Angels are hitting .302 off of him with five homers and 17 runs in just 96 at bats. That does NOT include Mike Trout‘s stats. Escobar is 8-21(.381) with two walks, a double, to homers, five runs scored, and six RBI in his career against Pineda. He is also the cheapest cleanup hitter on the board in a hitter’s paradise. Escobar is a great punt option tonight.

SS: Aledmys Diaz ($3,700): Diaz has only faced Jeremy Hellickson five times. He has a walk, a double, and two solo homers against him already. Diaz has not been quite as good as last year, but he should still have a good night against a pitcher that he has terrorized.

OF: Adam Jones ($4,300): Jones is 10-18(.556) with four doubles, a homer, three runs scored, and three RBI in his career against Josh Tomlin. Balls have been flying out of Camden Yards at a very high rate lately. Tomlin’s propensity for allowing fly balls is going to hurt him in this one.

OF: Eric Thames ($4,700): Thames has cooled off after hitting a homer in four straight games last week and into the weekend. In fact, the struggling Gerrit Cole held the Brewers to only one run last night. So why will tonight be different against another Pirates starter? Because left handed hitters are hitting .310 off of Chad Kuhl over his career. Any Milwaukee lefty is in play. I’m paying the premium for the best one.

OF: Lorenzo Cain ($3,800): Am I crazy? Staring Lorenzo Cain against the best pitcher in the American League? No. Cain his having a nice season, and he has feasted off of Chris Sale in his career. Cain is 18-52(.346) with five doubles, three homers, seven runs scored, eight RBI, and a steal against Sale. Notice that I did stop short of including Eric Hosmer, Alcides Escobar, and Salvador Perez, all of whom have good career stats against Sale. They will be an under-the-radar stack, but there would be a high chance of it failing.

DraftKings
Jun 10, 2017; Washington, DC, USA; Washington Nationals starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez (47) throws the ball against the Texas Rangers during the third inning at Nationals Park. Mandatory Credit: Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Gio Gonzalez ($9,600): Gonzalez has quietly posted a 2.89 ERA to go with a 6-1 record this year. The Marlins have hit a solid .296 against him in 125 at bats, but have just five runs to show for it, and they have not hit a home run off of him. Marlins Park is a place that suppresses power anyway. Gonzalez only has 25 strikeouts in that span, but he has 79 strikeouts in 87.1 innings pitched so far this year. This looks like a good spot for Gio tonight.

More from FanSided

P: Mike Montgomery ($5,500): The Padres are still the worst team in the league against left handed pitchers despite improvement in that area. They did manage two runs last night against Jon Lester, which should also count as progress. However, its an automatic loss sending Chacin to the hill on the road, so as long as Montgomery can hang around long enough, he will get an easy win. You can do worse for this price, and there is potential for Montgomery to go well over 20 DraftKings points tonight.

C: Miguel Montero ($3,100): Montero has his right handed pitchers hard. Tonight’s opponent has the worst road split in the entire league. Jhoulys Chacin has always had trouble on the road, but this year its even worse. Chacin’s road ERA is a staggering 10.27 on the season in seven starts. Pitching at Wrigley isn’t likely to help that number.

1B: Paul Goldschmidt ($5,800): Goldschmidt has only faced German Marquez five times. He has two walks, two singles, two homers, and four RBI off of him already. The gaudy pricetag is courtesy of the game being at Coors Field, but Goldie should be worth every penny tonight.

2B: Starlin Castro ($4,500): Castro is still hitting cleanup in a surprisingly potent lineup, and he is thriving. Castro is hitting .324 with 12 homers and 43 RBI this year. Eight of those homers have come in Yankee Stadium. He will have a healthy shot at another one with Parker Bridwell taking the hill for the Angels.

3B: Kris Bryant ($4,700): Bryant has slugged 11 of his 15 home runs this season at Wrigley Field. With a guy like Chacin on the hill for San Diego, there is potential for a lot of long balls in this one. There are too many good first basemen on the board for me to go to Anthony Rizzo, but I have no problems using Bryant.

SS: Eduardo Escobar ($4,300): Derek Holland hasn’t been terrible against the Twins this year, but Escobar is the one guy that has given him fits. Escobar is 4-7 with a walk, a double, a homer, and four RBI against Holland so far this year. There is no reason for that to change tonight.

OF: Aaron Judge ($5,400): Parker Bridwell has no idea what he is in for. He was solid against the Yankees out of the bullpen earlier this year, but now he gets to head to Yankee Stadium. You know, the place where Judge has his very own cheering section and has mashed 15 of his 23 home runs at. Did I mention that he is also hitting a Ted Williams-esqe .400 at home in 30 games this year? It’s woth paying the premium for Judge tonight.

OF: Denard Span ($3,600): I thought about stacking lefties against Julio Teheran at SunTrust Park tonight. Then I remembered that the Giants offense just isn’t very good. However, I will still roll with Span because he is cheap. And he is 13-32(.406) with two walks, two doubles, two triples, a homer, nine runs scored, two steals, and two RBI in his career against Teheran. I stacked Giants last night with no results. Tonight I’m going to go with Span only just in case the offense fails again.

OF: Kyle Schwarber ($3,500): Yes, I realize that Schwarber lost his spot at the top of the order and is hitting just .174 on the season. However, he also has 12 home runs on the season, and Chacin’s road struggles are well documented. If he is ever going to get it going, this is a great bet to be it, especially for this low of a price. I like the odds of this paying off against Chacin. That said, If Jason Heyward is able to play, I am moving to him instead.
