DraftKings Main MLB Picks For June 21
We have 11 games in the main DraftKings tournament. Tonight means more daylight than any other day this year. Will that affect the players on our team? Doubtful. So instead we will focus on stats and trends right now. Sound good? Let’s get to it! Right after we reflect for a bit on last night.

The money line last night was way up to 129.6 with several great offensive performances. My lineup with Ervin Santana was doomed, but the revamped second lineup with the cheaper pitching came up huge with 184.85 points, good for 205th place. A huge night from Corey Seager with good value from Gio Gonzalez and Mike Montgomery made for a nice win!
The winning lineup was up to 236.65 DraftKings points. It was a three way tie at first. Both had Alex Cobb and Brandon McCarthy, but it was the Dodger stack and Manny Machado that brought home the win.
These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

P: Jose Berrios ($11,400): The White Sox couldn’t even hit Jose Berrios last year when he posted a dreadful 8.02 ERA. Berrios is 6-1 with a 2.74 ERA in seven starts with 45 strikeouts in 46 innings this year. The only team that has really been able to get to him was Houston, and he still only allowed four runs in that one. Expect another strong performance from the future ace of the Twins here.
P: Sean Newcomb ($6,500): Is Newcomb going to go deep into the game? Probably not. His first two major league starts have spanned a total of 12.1 innings. Will he miss a lot of bats? Not really. He has notched ten strikeouts. What he will give you is a quality start if nothing else. He has only allowed four runs (three earned) in those starts, but has a 0-2 record to show for it. Don’t expect a miracle, but a quality start is the floor against the struggling Giants offense, who get a lot of their production from the left side where Newcomb will hold the platoon advantage.
C: Evan Gattis ($2,900): Let’s just get this out of the way: The Astros have been awful against Sean Manaea. LIke 11-80(.138) awful. That led to me stacking Yankees instead. However, Gattis is 3-12 with a double, a homer, and three RBI against Manaea. The rest of the team is 8-68 with just three RBI.
1B: Edwin Encarnacion ($4.900): This pick takes a leap of faith. Edwin is a pathetic 1-16(.062) lifetime against Kevin Gausman, but Gausman has been awful lately. As for Edwin, April is a distant memory. He has five homers in the last seven games. This has been a high scoring series, and with Gausman’s bloated 6.60 ERA, it could be high scoring for Cleveland tonight. Gausman has surrendered 16 runs in 15.2 innings over his last three starts.
2B: Eric Sogard ($3,900): Trevor Williams put together a few decent starts, but has surrendered eight runs over nine innings in his last two starts. The Brewers are loaded with left handed pop in a ballpark that supports it. This could be a big offensive game for the Brewers. I definitely want their leadoff man with as many runs as they may score.
3B: Miguel Sano ($3,900): Sano is way too cheap here. He has tons of power. Do you really think that David Holmberg can keep him in the park? Maybe he does, but I would say Sano has at least a 50/50 chance of hitting another one out.
SS: Corey Seager ($4,700): Seager erupted for three homers and six RBI last night in a 12-0 rout of the Mets. That was against Robert Gsellman, who is better than Tyler Pill. I’m not saying that Seager will have this kind of night again, but another home run is certainly a possibility. Beware of high ownership though.
OF: Byron Buxton ($3,000): Buxton picked up two more hits last night, and now has nine hits in his last 35 at bats. And he has only struck out seven times! He appears to be turning a corner, and has great speed, which will be realized now that he is on base more often.
OF: Cody Bellinger ($5,200): It’s a case of hot and hotter with Seager and Bellinger. Which one is which? I don’t know that we can tell right now. The Mets have given up 22 runs in the first two games of this series. The Dodgers are going to score some more here tonight.
OF: Carlos Gonzalez ($3,600): CarGo is 2-6 with a double, a homer, and three RBI in his career against Taijuan Walker. It has been a very slow year for Gonzalez, but he took Zack Greinke deep last night. Was that the slump breaker? For this price, I will pay to find out!

P: Jordan Montgomery ($7,900): Jordan Montgomery has never faced the Angels. Honestly, the Angels aren’t as bad without Mike Trout as you may think. They have still scored about four runs a game with Trout on the shelf. The rookie has had some ups and downs this year, but he should at least notch a quality start, and a win is all but a formality against Ricky Nolasco.

P: James Paxton ($7,700): Paxton has dominated the Tigers in his career. Detroit is hitting only .238 off of him with no homes and just four runs scored to go with 16 strikeouts in 63 at bats. Add this information to Justin Verlander‘s atricious splits, and Paxton could be a nice value tonight.
C: Gary Sanchez ($4,900): Ricky Nolasco has a 5.01 ERA this season, and is coming into Yankee Stadium. This doesn’t look good for the Angels. Sanchez has already hit a solo shot off of Nolasco, his only hit in three at bats. Don’t be surprised if history repeats itself.
1B: Matt Holliday ($4,400): For those of you wondering, Ricky Nolasco has taken the ball at Yankee Stadium once in his career. He allowed just one run in six innings. Don’t expect a repeat of that performance this time around. The Bronx Bombers are back! Holliday has the best past stats against Nolasco, going 12-26(.462) with a walk, three doubles, a triple, two homers, three runs scored, and seven RBI against him.
2B: Taylor Motter ($2,600): Motter continues to be one of the best bargains running with Jean Segura out. Many Mariners prices are down due to them facing Justin Verlander, but Verlander features home/road splits that would make Tyler Chatwood blush. Verlander has an outlandish 6.40 ERA on the road. This may be a night to capitalize on some of the low-priced Mariners.
3B: Chase Headley ($3,900): Headley is 9-21(.429) with a walk, two doubles, a solo homer, a steal, and four runs scored in his career against Ricky Nolasco. He is one of the cheaper Yankees that you will find tonight, yet he is still near the middle of the order. At any rate, Headley should have plenty of opportunities with runner on tonight.
SS: Didi Gregorius ($4,400): Gregorius is a staggering 11-22 against Ricky Nolasco in his career. He has yet to homer off of him, but that isn’t really Didi’s game,. He does have three doubles, three runs scored, and three RBI though. Expect some crooked numbers for Gregorius tonight.
OF: Aaron Judge ($5,400): Does is really matter what Judge’s career numbers are against anyone at this point? He thrives in Yankee Stadium, where he has 16 of his league-leading 24 home runs in just 109 at bats! He is a must-play at home.
OF: Ian Desmond ($4,700): Desmond is 4-11 with a walk, a solo homer, and three RBI in his career against Taijuan Walker. Having exposure to Coors Field in both lineups isn’t a bad idea. Just some thought for those of you considering a stack here: Both Walker and Jeff Hoffman have pitched well this year. There may be better stacks at sea level tonight.
OF: Matt Adams ($4,100): Adams is 6-11 with a walk, two doubles, a solo homer, and three runs scored against Jeff Samardzija in his career. And that was without the benefit of SunTrust Park! Adams loves his new home. He is hitting .296 with six homers and 14 RBI in only 71 at bats there. Adams looks a little underpriced tonight.
