DraftKings Main MLB Picks For June 22

The 12 games today are split right down the middle today. There is an ace in each DraftKings slate. Should we pay for either of them? Where can we go cheap to afford the bloated salary? Let’s check out some stats!

More from DFS

The money line last night was down a bit to 123.7. My Yankees stack lineup made it into the money thanks to a late swap to Ehire Adrianza for Taylor Motter. My other lineup had a solid total of 105.1. A goose egg from Edwin for his price tag hurt a lot.

The winning lineup was down a lot more to 203.3. He used Jose Berrios and Carlos Carrasco, and got a huge boost from Martin Maldonado.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Jun 16, 2017; Oakland, CA, USA; New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Severino (40) pitches against the Oakland Athletics in the first inning at Oakland Coliseum. Mandatory Credit: John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Luis Severino ($12,300): There isn’t much to go on here. The active Angels are just 2-11 against Severino with a pair of strikeouts. Nothing special, right? I’ll give you that, but I’m going back to the well again. The Yankees made me money last night, so I’m stacking again. And yes, the stack starts with the pitcher that will benefit from all the runs the offense scores. It also makes the decision easy when said pitcher has a sub 3 ERA.

P: Steven Matz ($6,900): The Dodgers are just 2-20 lifetime against Steven Matz with seven strikeouts. Matz has been solid in his two starts back, but it would be unreasonable to expect him to be where he was last year just yet. However, he looks cheap at this price considering the stadium he is pitching in and the lineup going against him. Matz should turn in another quality start, which is a solid return for this price.

C: Gary Sanchez  ($5,200): Sanchez has only faced Jesse Chavez once. He homered off of him. This is a great place to start the stack!

1B: Matt Adams ($4.400): Matt Cain is stack bait away from AT&F Park. Especially when you move him into a place like SunTrust Park that favors left handed power. Cain has a 7.46 ERA in seven road starts. It’s going to get worse after this one. Adams will be one reason why. He is 3-8 with a double, two runs scored, and three RBI against Cain so far.

2B: Enrique Hernandez ($3,100): The Madison Bumgarner Whisperer also hits other lefties well. Hernandez has slugged five of his six homers this year off of lefties in just 58 at bats! If Matz makes a mistake, Kike could get another here.

3B: Chase Headley ($3,300): Headley is 3-7 with a walk and a solo homer against Jesse Chavez. He only has one home run since April 19th. It was against this very same team a little over a week ago. It’s hard to use someone that is slumping like Headley is, but I needed to save money, and the past stats support this. I will give it a shot!

SS: Jose Iglesias ($2,600): Iglesias is far from an elite offensive option, but there is no reason that he wont get on base once or twice against rookie Andrew Moore. He is a solid punt play in a solid lineup.

OF: Brett Gardner ($4,600): Where is Aaron Judge, you may ask? In 40% of other lineups, that’s where. Judge was 39.4% owned in an 11 game slate last night. His ownership could approach 50% tonight, so I am going to go without him. Instead, I will use Gardner. He is 5-15 with two walks, two steals, a solo homer, and two runs scored against Jesse Chavez.

OF: Matt Kemp ($4,100): Kemp has hit Matt Cain hard. He is only 16-64(.250), but he has five walks, five doubles, a triple, four homers, nine runs scored, and six RBI in his career against Cain. A lot of those stats came while Kemp was in the N.L. West, but SunTrust Park has helped Kemp turn back the clock to his Padre days when he was hitting 30 homers a year. Don’t be surprised if he has a good one here against Cain.

OF: Nick Markakis ($3,500): Markakis is also 3-8 against Matt Cain. He has no counting stats, just a walk and a double, but Markakis has to hit his first homer at home at some point. It could be tonight.

Jun 15, 2017; Cleveland, OH, USA; Cleveland Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez (11) hits an RBI single in the first inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Progressive Field. Mandatory Credit: David Richard-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Jake Arrieta ($8,800): Arrieta has absolutely dominated the Marlins. They are hitting just .159 off of him with only one homer and two RBI in 44 at bats. He has also racked up 10 strikeouts. Arrieta gave up one run in seven innings in his only start at Marlins Park. Don’t be shocked if he does it again. His 4.64 ERA on the season means we get him in the cheap. I will take it in this environment.

More from FanSided

P: Jaime Garcia ($7,500): Garcia finally had the rough outing at home that he had only heard about in his last trip to the mound against the Marlins. Well, the Giants are not the Marlins. San Francisco is still one of the worst teams in the league against lefthanders. Part of that comes from residing in a division with the Dodgers, but it isn’t all a fluke. Garcia is in a solid spot tonight. His home ERA was a shade under 2 until the Marlins blew him up. Garcia put up 6.2 scoreless innings against the Giants out west earlier this year. He should come out of here with another nice game.

C: Mike Zunino ($3,700): The Mariners have punished Daniel Norris so far. They are hitting .386 in 44 at bats. Zunino himself is only 1-3 with a run scored, but that was before he went to Tacoma and learned how to hit. Zunino looks underpriced with the way he has been hitting lately.

1B: Anthony Rizzo ($5,300): Anthony Rizzo has Jeff Locke‘s number. Despite the lefty-lefty matchup, Rizzo has terrorized Locke with 11 hits in 29 at bats(.379) with three walks, three doubles, five homers, eight runs scored, and a staggering 12 RBI. Rizzo has dominated since moving to the top of the lineup. It is not a good night to be, or own, Jeff Locke.

2B: Javier Baez ($3,300): Baez has seen his playing time shrink even with Ben Zobrist on the DL, but expect Baez to get the start here. He is 4-8 with a triple, a homer, and two RBI so far against Locke. That presents us with a great chance to save money with Baez.

3B: Jose Ramirez ($5,500): Ramirez lit up everyone last week. Guess what? He has seven more hits in the first three days of this week after racking up 16 last week. Baltimore obviously can’t get him out, so I’m paying up.

SS: Jean Segura ($4,300): Segura picked up a hit while leading off in his return from the disabled list last night. It should be safe to roll with him once again. Like Zunino, Segura doesn’t have much of a history against Norris. He is also 1-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Still, this is a team with a chance to score a lot of runs. I want the leadoff hitter!

OF: Nelson Cruz ($4,500): Cruz is 4-6 with two walks, a triple, a homer, and two RBI already against Daniel Norris. Cruz has repeatedly shown that he has the power to hit it out of Safeco Field. Don’t rule him out tonight against Norris.

OF: Yoenis Cespedes ($4,100): Cespedes is about the only Met that has remembered how to hit a baseball lately. He also gets a break here since the Dodgers wanted Alex Wood to start against the division leading Rockies on Friday instead of against the struggling Mets. Now Cespedes get Hyun-Jin Ryu, who has had some issues with the long ball. He gave up three homers in his last home start.

OF: Guillermo Heredia ($2,900): Heredia is a great place to save some money if he starts. Considering he is 4-6 with with a homer and two RBI against Norris while Jarrod Dyson is only 1-4 with a single, it should happen. Of course, the caveat here is that Heredia will likely be lifted for a pinch hitter (Dyson) at some point.
