DraftKings Early MLB Picks For June 24

We have an even split today with seven early games and seven night games. If you want a piece of the Rangers/Yankees game in the Bronx, you have to hit the all day slate, which is chock full of aces. Bargains are harder to come by on the early DraftKings slate because of the wealth of stack options. Who is worth paying for, and who can we leave out? Let’s check some stats!

More from DFS

The money line yesterday was at 109, which is quite a ways down from the rest of the week. Two of my three lineups were way over that total because of solid pitching and Mike Zunino and Logan Morrison. The only one that missed was the ill-fated Indians stack.

The winning lineup was still pretty high at 212.65. He used Michael Fulmer and Alex Wood, which was one of my pitching tandems. He stacked Rays and Nationals, leading to a big win tonight.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Jun 23, 2017; Washington, DC, USA; Washington Nationals left fielder Brian Goodwin (8) hits a solo home run in the seventh inning against the Cincinnati Reds at Nationals Park. Mandatory Credit: Patrick McDermott-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Corey Kluber ($12,600): The Twins are only hitting .198 against Kluber in 182 at bats. Now the bad news: the Twins have slugged six homers off of him and scored 16 runs. So why am I still treating Kluber like an elite option? Well, none of that has come this year, and Kluber has only given up five runs total in four starts since his return from the disabled list. It wont be easy for the Twins today.

P: R.A. Dickey ($5,300): Well, I have to save money somewhere. This would seem to be a good place. Dickey has a solid 3.58 ERA at home even though he has allowed nine homers in eight games. Milwaukee has a lot of power, and there is a nice short porch in right for their left handed power hitters, but his knuckler was brilliant his last time out. There are very few options outside of the top three this afternoon, so I have to take a chance somewhere.

C: Matt Wieters ($3,100): Remember Homer Bailey? He gave up a ton of his namesake earlier in his career, but seemed to right the ship last year, only to have elbow surgery in February. He will make his 2017 debut against a very dangerous Nationals team on the road today. It’s going to be another warm one, which is great hitting weather, so I’m stacking the home team today against a guy making his first start of the season with a questionable bullpen behind him.

1B: Matt Adams ($4,200): Adams is 8-17(.471) with a walk, two doubles, a homer, four runs scored, and four RBI off of Matt Garza in his career. Now he gets to face him at SunTrust Park, a place where Adams has slugged eight homers in only 87 at bats. If you want a souvenir, sit in the right field bleachers at SunTrust today.

2B: Daniel Murphy ($5,200): Murphy actually has a history against Homer Bailey. He is 2-5 with two walks, a double, and four runs scored against Bailey. Murphy has homered in back to back games. Don’t be shocked if he makes it three in a row today.

3B: Anthony Rendon ($4,700): Rendon also homered last night in a game in which the Nationals hit four long balls. Whether or not Bailey has trouble with homers anymore is irrelevant. This is a hitter’s park on a warm day against a guy with a lot of rust. This could be a huge offensive day for the Nationals.

SS: Tim Beckham ($3,500): The Rays don’t have much of a history against Dylan Bundy, but Bundy has been downright awful since his brilliant April. Beckham has only faced him three times, but he homered off of him twice. Evan Longoria also homered off of Bundy, and Logan Morrison has terrorized righties this year. A Rays stack is in order if you don’t trust the Indians after last night.

OF: Khris Davis ($4,100): Shields has been very good this year, but Davis is perfect against him in in his career. Davis has a single, a double, a homer, three runs scored, and two RBI in his career against Shields already. Expect good numbers from Davis in this one.

OF: Nick Markakis ($3,800): Markakis is only 10-46(.217) off of Matt Garza, but he has six walks, a double, four runs scored, and six RBI against him. Markakis has 12 of his 20 extra base hits at home this year. He seems cheap against Garza today.

OF: Brian Goodwin ($3,500): I will forego Bryce Harper for Goodwin because I want the best pitcher on this slate. And honestly, Goodwin has hit better than Harper lately. He has five homers in the last 11 games, including two last night. Harper obviously has more potential because he gets on base a lot more and has a more favorable position in the lineup, but you can’t ignore Goodwin’s value for the price. Especially when you need an easy way to save a couple thousand.

Jun 7, 2017; St. Petersburg, FL, USA; Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Jacob Faria (34) throws a pitch during the first inning against the Chicago White Sox at Tropicana Field. Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Jacob Faria ($8,900): Faria has been nothing short of brilliant so far. He has only allowed three runs in three starts as a rookie with 22 strikeouts in 19.2 innings pitched. There is bound to be a correction somewhere, but I doubt it happens today against the struggling Orioles at a pitcher’s park. He is the best option outside of the elite, and I wouldn’t be shocked if he outscored Lester.

P: James Shields ($6,200): I know, I know. A lot of you are like I am. I have a really hard time trusting Shields at all after the disaster that was his 2016 campaign. However, Shields has a 2.42 ERA this year in four starts, including a sparkling 1.69 ERA at home. The A’s are far from an offensive juggernaut here, and Shields will have an excellent chance at a win facing off against rookie Daniel Gossett. I’m not expecting a miracle here. After all, he is only one start removed from a two month absence. That said, I think Shields can turn in a quality start here with great win potential. That’s better than a lot of pitchers priced higher than him today.

C: Yan Gomes ($3,300): Roberto Perez started behind the plate last night, so Gomes should be in there today. That’s a good thing. Gomes is 9-18 with a walk, two doubles, two homers, four runs scored, and four RBI in his career against Kyle Gibson. In fact, Cleveland is hitting .362 off of Gibson in 160 at bats. Welcome to my other favorite stack today!

1B: Edwin Encarnacion ($5,400): Edwin loves Kyle Gibson. He is 5-14(.357) with three walks, a double, three homers, four runs scored, and eight RBI against him in his career. Gibson has been marginally better since returning from the minors, but considering how well Cleveland has hit him in the past, he could be in for an early shower. Then Cleveland gets to tee off against a terrible bullpen!

2B: Jason Kipnis ($4,300): Kipnis is 9-18 with seven walks, two doubles, a homer, five runs scored, and two steals against Gibson in his career. Kipnis has started to come around at the plate lately, and could actually be a bargain at this price.

3B: Jose Ramirez ($5,300): The Twins actually ended Ramirez’s hit streak last night. How? He didn’t start the game. He was retired as a pinch hitter, but none of his coworkers fared any better. Cleveland only mustered three hits last night! They will get at least four times that today, and the smart money says that Ramirez will be right in the middle of it. Why? Because he is 6-17(.353) with two walks, two doubles, and five runs scored against Gibson in his career.

SS: Francisco Lindor ($4,800): Lindor has also pummeled Kyle Gibson. Big surprise, right? Lindor is 9-16(.562) with a walk, a double, four runs scored, two steals, and two RBI off of Gibson. There is almost limitless potential with the Cleveland bats today. Of course, I thought the same thing last night.

OF: Giancarlo Stanton ($3,900): Stanton looks cheap today. He is 2-6 against Jon Lester in his career. Both of the hits are home runs. The Marlins are hitting .349 against Lester in 106 career at bats, so this doesn’t look like a fluke. The potential is here for Lester to struggle, so I’m not paying for him, and I am going with a couple of cheap Marlins.

OF: Marcell Ozuna ($3,900): Ozuna is 3-5 with a walk, a double, a solo homer, and two runs scored against Lester in his career. I mention Lester’s struggles against the current Marlins team. It’s worth taking a couple of pieces of this lineup at the depressed price. Even Ichiro has homered twice off of Lester!

OF: Jose Bautista ($3,800): Yes, Bautista is still mostly scuffling at the plate this year, but a few trips to the batter’s box against Jason Vargas could help. Bautista is only 4-15(.267) against Vargas, but he has seven walks, three homers, five runs scored, and four RBI against him. It’s worth taking a chance on Bautista batting leadoff for this price.
