DraftKings Main MLB Picks For June 24

We have seven more night games tonight for the main DraftKings tournament. Where do we go with a hand full of aces? Four pitchers are priced over $10,000. Are there enough bargains to build a lineup with two of them? Let’s check out some stats!

More from DFS

The money line yesterday was at 109, which is quite a ways down from the rest of the week. Two of my three lineups were way over that total because of solid pitching and Mike Zunino and Logan Morrison. The only one that missed was the ill-fated Indians stack.

The winning lineup was still pretty high at 212.65. He used Michael Fulmer and Alex Wood, which was one of my pitching tandems. He stacked Rays and Nationals, leading to a big win tonight.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Jun 8, 2017; Kansas City, MO, USA; Houston Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. (43) pitches against the Kansas City Royals in the first inning at Kauffman Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Clayton Kershaw ($12,500): Kershaw has held the Rockies to a .225 average in 258 at bats, and that includes Coors Field stats. His numbers continue to baffle, but his home dominance is what keeps us coming back. Kershaw is a bargain tonight at this price. He has only allowed six homers and 14 runs to the Rockies, most of which came at Coors Field. Expect another dominant performance from the best lefthander since Steve Carlton, and this is coming from a big fan of Randy Johnson.

P: Lance McCullers Jr. ($10,800): There is some risk involved here since the Mariners are putting up runs by the bushel lately and McCullers is fresh off the DL. However, McCullers wont be on a pitch count, and he has only allowed four runs to the Mariners in 67 at bats. The .254 average against is pretty good, but the 23 strikeouts more than make up for it. For those of you keeping score at home, that is more than a strikeout every three batters. I will take it!

C: Cameron Rupp ($2,600): We have to save money somewhere if we are using two stud pitchers. The easiest place is in Arizona with the players wearing Phillies uniforms. Sure, there is risk involved since Robbie Ray has a 2.88 ERA, but let’s look closer. Ray gave up four runs in Philadelphia on Sunday. He also has an unsightly 4.73 ERA at home. Ray is not an elite option in the desert, and the Phillies have a lot of righties. Rupp is 3-8 with a walk, a triple, and three RBI against Ray. He is also hitting .286 with three homers and five RBI in just 49 at bats against left handed pitching this year.

1B: Tommy Joseph ($3,000): Joseph is only 1-7 against Robbie Ray, but he has two walks and a run scored. Joseph has actually hit right handed pitching better this year, but five of his 11 homers have come against southpaws in just 65 at bats. This is a hitter’s park, and Ray has not done well at home.

2B: Josh Harrison ($4,000): The metrics say that Lance Lynn has been very lucky this year. It could run out against a Pirates team that has finally figured out how to score runs without Starling Marte. Harrison is 8-23(.348) with two doubles, a homer, five runs scored, and two RBI against Lynn. He looks cheap for this price tonight.

3B: Maikel Franco ($3,100): Franco is 2-8 with a walk and a two run homer in his career against Ray. Franco is way too cheap with the potential that he has to go deep. In fact, most of the Phillies’ lineup is.

SS: Jordy Mercer ($3,300): Mercer has a top 5 wOBA against right handed pitching at the position. He is also 7-20 with a walk, three doubles, a run scored, and four RBI in his career against Lance Lynn. For those of you thinking about using the red-hot Andrew McCutchen, you may want to reconsider. McCutchen is just 8-47(.170) without a homer against Lynn.

OF: Andrew Benintendi ($4,300): Benintendi has never faced J.C. Ramirez, but he does have a 4.56 ERA this year. He has shown flashes of being a good pitcher this year, but a trip to Fenway looks very ominous. Especially considering he was roughed up by the Royals his last time out. Benintendi will have a good spot in the order to produce some runs tonight.

OF: Aaron Altherr ($3,300): Altherr is 1-3 with a homer against Robbie Ray. Like all of his teammates, he is underpriced. Considering what the Phillies did to Ray in Philadelphia, I am comfortable with this stack to afford two great pitchers.

OF: Hunter Pence ($3,000): Hunter Pence is way too cheap tonight considering his past stats. He is 5-14 with a walk, a double, a homer, three runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Jacob deGrom. That is more than half of the Giants’ RBI off of deGrom so I wont use any of his teammates, but Pence at this price is worth  a shot.

Jun 13, 2017; Pittsburgh, PA, USA; Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood (32) delivers a pitch against the Pittsburgh Pirates during the first inning at PNC Park. Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Jacob deGrom ($11,400): deGrom was my pitcher to build around here because the Giants still aren’t  a very good offensive team. The Giants have solid numbers against deGrom, but deGrom is starting to come around. He was dominant against the Cubs and Nationals over his last two outings, allowing just one earned run over 17 innings. The Giants offense is nowhere near the Cubs or Nats.

More from FanSided

P: Tyler Chatwood ($7,400): Chatwood continues to pitch brilliantly on the road. He has a career 3.10 road ERA, and it drops to 1.97 since the start of the 2015 season. He has a sparkling 1.62 ERA in six career starts at Dodger Stadium. Expect a pitcher’s duel at Chavez Ravine tonight. Even if Chatwood doesn’t come away with a win, he is going to be one of the best bargains on the board at this price.

C: Martin Maldonado ($3,100): Okay, I’m going to spoil the surprise a little here. I’m putting together an Angels stack. David Price is not anywhere near himself yet, and the Angels have had a really good road trip thus far. Maldonado is 2-3 with a double and three RBI in his career against David Price. The price is right on Maldonado, and many of his teammates tonight.

1B: Matt Carpenter ($3,800): Carpenter is 11-29(.379) with three walks, a double, three homers, six runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Gerrit Cole. Cole was very good his last time out, but the fact remains that he still carries a 5.01 ERA on the road this year.

2B: Dustin Pedroia ($3,700): Pedroia is hitting .304 at home this year with 17 RBI in 112 at bats. He never has had a lot of power, but against a middling righty like J.C. Ramirez, it is possible he gets into one here.

3B: Yunel Escobar ($3,400): Escobar is still batting cleanup, and is still very cheap for his lineup position. Escobar is 7-30(.233) with two walks, a double, two runs scored, and two RBI in his career against David Price. Price’s 5.14 ERA leaves much room for improvement, so Escobar is a great play at this price.

SS: Chris Owings ($4,700): One good stack deserves another, right? Jake Lamb was the only goose egg in my highest scoring lineup last night, and I have an option I like better at third base. However, I do want some exposure to Ben Lively. Owings homered off of him over the weekend in Philly. He could do the same here.

OF: David Peralta ($4,900): Peralta didn’t play in Philadelphia against Lively, but his teammates hit two homers in that game. Peralta continues to hit left handed pitching hard, so he seems like a reasonably priced pick here.

OF: Cameron Maybin ($3,900): Maybin is still leading off, and picked up where he left off when he went on the DL. The Angels moving Maybin to the leadoff slot sparked both Maybin and the offense. Maybin is 0-3 against Price in his career, but he wasn’t hitting leadoff. Will it make a difference here as well?

OF: Curtis Granderson ($3,700): Granderson isn’t a lock to start anymore, but he likely will tonight. He is 4-15(.267) with four walks, three homers, a steal, and four RBI in his career against Johnny Cueto. Cueto is the lowest priced ace tonight, and with good reason. His numbers against the Mets aren’t great. You can thank Granderson for a big part of that.
