DraftKings Main MLB Picks For June 29

Eight of the 13 games are in the main DraftKings tournament. As usual, there are a couple of aces floating around, and a few mid tier pitchers that could pitch like aces. Do we dare fade Kershaw? Where are the bargains to put with him? Let’s check out some stats!

More from DFS

The money line last night was a  solid 124 DraftKings points. Ivan Nova ruined my Salvador Perez pick, and Ian Snell torpedoed the lineup with Aaron Judge.

The winning lineup was pretty average at 210.35. He had the monster strikeout night from Stephen Strasburg, and milked a win out of Luis Perdomo. He also stacked Astros with Khris Davis for a huge offensive score.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Jun 20, 2017; St. Petersburg, FL, USA; Cincinnati Reds left fielder Adam Duvall (23) at bat at Tropicana Field. Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports /

P: Clayton Kershaw ($13,300): Facing the Angels would be a place you want to use Kershaw anyway. With Trout out, the current lineup is pretty bad against Kershaw. They are only hitting .196 in 143 at bats with just one homer (by lefty Kole Calhoun, no less!), seven runs, and 41 strikeouts. Whatever it takes to get Kershaw in your lineup, it will likely be worth it.

P: Jaime Garcia ($6,700): Garcia’s price is down because he has given up 12 runs over 10 innings in his last two starts. However, those were both a SunTrust Field. His home park was bound to catch up with him at some point. Garcia has a solid 3.56 road ERA, and is heading into one of the better pitching parks around. The current Padres only have 20 at bats against Garcia with a homer, two RBI, and five strikeouts. Expect a strong rebound from Garcia tonight.

C: Chris Gimenez ($3,200): Gimenez has three homers in 33 at bats against left handed pitching this season. David Price still doesn’t seem right. The Twins aren’t a great offensive team, but they are good enough to take advantage if Price still isn’t at 100%.

1B: Mitch Moreland ($4,000): Moreland is only 1-6 against Kyle Gibson, but come on…..it’s Kyle Gibson. Gibson has pitched much better since returning from Rochester, but this is a good lineup. It hasn’t mattered before. Gibson has a 0.60 ERA in two career starts at Fenway Park. Keep in mind that this is a guy with a 4.76 career ERA.

2B: Chase Utley ($3,300): The regression of JC Ramirez is going to be very evident tonight. He is dead last in the majors with a .399 wOBA and .600 SLG allowed to left handed hitters this year. Utley should be a huge bargain at this price, and every other Dodger lefty in the lineup is a good play tonight.

3B: Eduardo Escobar ($3,600): Escobar is a pedestrian 3-12 against David Price, but like I said earlier, this isn’t the David Price of old. Escobar is destroying left handed pitching this year. He is hitting .344 with five homers and 13 RBI in just 64 at bats against lefties. He is worth a shot at Price at this price.

SS: Jordy Mercer ($3,100): Mercer is 1-3 with a run scored in his career against Chris Archer. However, he has been leading off with Starling Marte out, and is hitting .313 against right handed pitching this year. Archer has not allowed less than two runs in a start since May 10th. Teams are getting runs off of him, so Mercer looks like a good option leading off at this price.

OF: Adam Duvall ($4,400): Duvall has homered in the first two games of this series. He is a strong threat to do so again. He is 6-12 with two runs scored and a solo homer in his career against Jimmy Nelson. Nelson has been solid this year, but he has struggled at Great American Ballpark. he has a 5.91 ERA in six career starts there. He also owns a 5.06 road ERA this season.

OF: Joc Pederson ($4,400): Pederson is hitting .318 in June, so he is coming around after a slow start. He has averaged 10.7 DraftKings points over the last ten games as well. With Ramirez’s issues against left handed batters, expect Pederson to keep up his hot streak tonight.

OF: Billy Hamilton ($4,000): Hamilton has a homer and two steals in the first two games of this series. Expect more good things from Hamilton. He is 7-23(.304) with a double, four walks, five runs scored, and an astonishing nine steals against Nelson in his career. Those steals can add up pretty quickly as those of you who have played Trea Turner against the Cubs have found out.

Jun 23, 2017; Kansas City, MO, USA; Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher J.A. Happ (33) delivers a pitch in the first inning against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports /

P: J.A. Happ ($8,700): The Orioles are only hitting .209 against Happ in 153 career at bats with six homers, but only 11 runs to go with a nice 46 strikeouts. The struggling Marcus Stroman dominated the slumping Orioles last night. Baltimore has only scored three runs in the first two games of this series. This looks like a prime place for Happ to shut them down as well.

More from FanSided

P: Jameson Taillon ($7,500): The current Rays are only 1-6 against Taillon. That isn’t much of a sample size, and there is risk involved here since Corey Dickerson and Logan Morrison hit righties well. That said, Taillon has only allowed six runs in 16 innings since his return, and has racked up 16 strikeouts in that span. The Rays strike out a lot, which will help erase the two or three runs he gives up here.

C: Russell Martin ($3,700): Ubaldo Jimenez has a 7.26 ERA on the season. Stacking Blue Jays is a chalk play, but it may be a necessary one. Martin is 12-48 with nine walks, two doubles, eight runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Jimenez. This looks like a good place to start!

1B: Kendrys Morales ($3,700): Morales is 7-21 with a walk, two doubles, two homers, three runs scored, and three RBI against Ubaldo in his career. That is half the homers that Jimenez has allowed to the Jays in his career, so Morales looks like the best bet to do it tonight.

2B: Scooter Gennett ($4,300): Gennett has never faced former teammate Jimmy Nelson before. Gennett is hitting .329 with six homers and 23 RBI in just 79 at bats in Great American Ballpark this year. You know, the place where Nelson has a 5.91 career ERA in six starts.

3B: Chase Headley ($3,800): Headley is a much better hitter from the left side, and James Shields has had a very rough go of it at home. Shields has a 7.56 ERA at home, mostly due to his outrageous 50% fly ball rate. The Yankees could put up some huge numbers tonight. Headley is about as cheap as they get, but maybe he shouldn’t be. He is 3-9 with three walks, a homer, two runs scored, and two RBI off of Shields in his career.

SS: Eric Sogard ($4,200): Sogard tripled, walked, and drove in two against Homer Bailey the first time he faced him, which was long before this breakout season. Sogard will likely be leading off again in a hitter’s park against a pitcher that was blasted by the Nationals in his season debut. I expect Bailey to at least make it through the second inning tonight, but the Brewers could still touch him up. Sogard is hitting .367 against right handed pitching this year. There is no reason not to use him tonight, even as his price continues to climb.

OF: Aaron Judge ($5,700): There is no one I would rather have in my lineup against a fly ball pitcher. No one. This is an easy decision tonight.

OF: Mookie Betts ($5,000): So, since the Red Sox stack last night burned me yet again, I have come up with a solution: split the stack. I will get my exposure to Kyle Gibson in this lineup with Betts, who is 2-5 with two runs scored and a solo homer against Gibson. Gibson has pitched pretty well since his return from minor league exile with the exception of a game against Seattle. Gibson has allowed three runs or less in five of his last six starts. It is possible the Red Sox fall on their faces again.

OF: Ezequiel Carrera ($3,200): So you may be wondering, where are Josh Donaldson and Jose Bautista in this stack? Well, Donaldson is just 5-28 in his career against Ubaldo. Bautista is even worse, going just 3-38(.079) off of him. You can use those two if you like, but even though Ubaldo has been awful lately, I just can’t condone paying the premium with those ugly career stats for either Donaldson or Bautista.
