Akron at Miami(OH)(-6.5): MISS! Clearly a less than 100% Ragland is still too much for the Zips.

Bowling Green at Buffalo(-8.5): MISS! Tyree Jackson threw all over the Falcons in this one. They were lucky to keep it within ten.

Kent State at Western Michigan(-21.5): HIT! This was pretty easy money here. Kent never really stood a chance.

Toledo(-1.5) at Ohio: HIT! Losing Terry Swanson really hurt Toledo and turned the game in a big way for Ohio.

Eastern Michigan(-1.5) at Central Michigan: MISS! Brogan Roback had his worst college game when the Eagles needed him most. No bowl for Eastern this year, and this may have been there best chance for a while.

Ball State at Northern Illinois(-31.5): HIT! Who knew that NIU could do that on offense? NIU scored 63 points for the first time since 2011. However, this time they only allowed 17 to  their opponent instead of 60…..

Georgia Southern at Appalachian State(-17.5): MISS! An option offense can still cover larger spreads when no one can stop it…..

North Carolina at Pittsburgh(-9.5): MISS! Pitt’s defense is actually worse than North Carolina’s! For one game, anyway. Seriously though, The Tarheel defense has made strides recently, but they still have a ways to go to respectability.

Temple(-2.5) at Cincinnati: HIT! I let North Carolina’s scary bad defense cloud my judgment in the last game. I apparently was thinking clearly here.

Washington(-5.5) at Stanford: MISS! Washington’s defense has ruined what could have been a really great season for them. This week they were carved up by Bryce Love at about 70%. This was a huge performance for Love when the Tree really needed him.

BYU at UNLV(-4.5) MISS! How is it that the Rebels play so poorly in Vegas? Isn’t it the other team that’s supposed to be out on the town all night the day before the game?

Michigan State at Ohio State(-16.5): MISS! Defense? What defense? This was a statement by Ohio State. They still need a lot of chaos in front of them to get back in this thing, but I wouldn’t rule that out this year.

Rutgers at Penn State(-30.5): HIT! How is it that Saquon Barkley can’t even run on Rutgers this year? Last year he ran on everyone but Michigan!

Oklahoma State(-6.5) at Iowa State: MISS! Iowa State had a chance to run off with this in the first half, and they still had their chances in the second half. They aren’t quite there yet, but the Cyclones have been fun to watch this year, and at the very least made it back to a bowl game. It has to count as a successful season.

Connecticut at Central Florida(-40.5): HIT! UCF is a good team, but it takes a lot more than an explosive offense to cover a massive line like that.

North Carolina State(-2.5) at Boston College: HIT! Okay, so it was three points instead of four. If I knew everything, I would have a 100% success rate instead of 52%.

Arkansas at LSU(-17.5) HIT! This pick didn’t look so great until about halfway through the third quarter. Then LSU remembered that their coach was on the hot seat.

Duke(-3.5) at Army: HIT! You can always count on the military academies to be disciplined. This year they are all good enough to make a bowl game!

Texas Tech(-8.5) at Baylor: MISS! I should have known that Baylor couldn’t really stop that offense. They basically deconstructed the whole program when Rhule came in.

Louisiana at Mississippi(-20.5): HIT! Wow, this was just a beating!Jordan Ta’amu looked great again. Can he do it against some of the SEC’s best?

Florida at South Carolina(-5.5): HIT! This was closer than I thought it would be, but South Carolina also played a really sloppy game. They were pretty lucky not to lose this one. Florida losing Zaire really helped the Cocks.

Indiana(-9.5) at Illinois: HIT! What an ugly game. Richard Lagow was good enough to cover this, but just barely.

Nebraska at Minnesota(-2.5): HIT! That is what is looks like when a coach loses a team. You can try to blame this on losing Tanner Lee. You can try to blame this on changing the fundamental defense (that holds no water since Nebraska ran almost exclusively a 4-3 in this game). You can blame it on an overbearing fanbase. Whatever the reason, this team did not play this game. They gave up after the opening kickoff was run back for a touchdown. The worst kept secret in the state is that Riley is gone. As for his replacement, they have supposedly offered Scott Frost more than a 300% raise to come home….

Virginia Tech(-3.5) at Georgia Tech: MISS! What happened to that Virginia Tech defense? Or the offense, for that matter? Both units should be on the back of a milk carton after this one……

Middle Tennessee State(-13.5) at Charlotte: HIT! I suppose that Charlotte not getting blown out is a step in the right direction.

Wake Forest at Syracuse(EVEN): HIT! Well,I was right about Syracuse not being able to stop Wake. The Deacons set a school record with 734 yards of total offense in this one. I didn’t think they would give up 64 points and get blown out though. Those 64 points were the most that Wake has scored in a game since 1975. The worst part for the Orange? They actually led 43-27 in the third quarter!

Georgia(-2.5) at Auburn: MISS! What a beating! How bad does that loss to LSU sting now? Especially since Auburn had no business losing that one.

Florida State at Clemson(-16.5): MISS! Too bad the Tigers pulled away late. FSU was within three with four minutes left!

Iowa at Wisconsin(-11.5): MISS! After arguably the biggest win in school history, Iowa gets steamrolled in Madison.

Virginia at Louisville(-11.5): MISS! I don’t think that I will be using “pretty good” and “Virginia” in the same sentence for a while……

Michigan(-16.5) at Maryland: HIT! The Terps may have been better off pulling someone out of the crowd to play QB. In all fairness though, Ryan Brand did a decent job against a tough Michigan defense.

West Virginia at Kansas State(-1.5): HIT! I get the line. The last three meetings in this series, including this one, were decided by a combined total of seven points. That’s a lot of close games!

SMU at Navy(-3.5): HIT! This game was a lot of fun to watch. That SMU offense is getting really dangerous, but the defense is not stopping anyone.

Florida Atlantic(-4.5) at Louisiana Tech: HIT! Which coach will start the domino effect? I have a feeling it may be Frost, but as soon as he is spoken for, I will be surprised if no one is sniffing around Kiffin. He burned a lot of bridges at Tennessee and maybe a few at USC, but he seems to take things more seriously now. Of course, he is at FAU…..

Southern Mississippi(-10.5) at Rice: MISS! Well, the Eagles did score more than 11 points, so that’s something…..

USC(-13.5) at Colorado: HIT! Colorado at least put up a fight. That hasn’t always been the case…..

Georgia State(-6.5) at Texas State: MISS! The Panthers don’t much care about not covering. They’re going bowling!

San Jose State at Nevada(-18.5): HIT! I really should have been more confident in this. I know how bad the Spartans are.

Kentucky at Vanderbilt(-2.5): MISS! I don’t know what to do about Kentucky anymore. Whatever I pick will be wrong, so if you are going to bet it, pick the opposite of what I do. That’s the best advice I can offer…..

Mississippi at Kentucky(-3.5) MISS! The Wildcats keep finding new and creative ways to lose. Something tells me that Mark Stoops will be fired in a more conventional manner…..

Troy(-16.5) at Coastal Carolina: MISS! Okay, so, from inference I can deduce that Troy would be no worse than third in the SEC West right now. However, I do have my doubts that Troy could oust LSU again.

Arkansas State(-10.5) at South Alabama: MISS! Well, this was surprising. Just when you think that Arkansas State is the class of the Sun Belt, something like this happens.

UTEP at North Texas(-22.5): HIT! I never thought that a 23 point line would look low for North Texas. That’s how bad UTEP is.

Washington State(-1.5) at Utah: HIT! I’m honestly surprised that the Leaches didn’t win by more. This was easy money!

Kansas at Texas(-33.5): HIT! Okay, I will admit that I was sweating this one when Texas scored 28 in the first quarter. Good thing the Kansas D showed up in the final three quarters.

Western Kentucky at Marshall(-11.5): MISS! I knew better…..

Alabama(-13.5)  at Mississippi State: MISS! Is Alabama not as tough as we thought? Or is Mississippi State really just that tough at home?

Purdue at Northwestern(-4.5): HIT! This was a beat down, and I can’t say I’m all that surprised. Purdue turned a lot of heads early on, but they have shown that they still have a ways to go. Not that they can’t make it. It just takes some time. This team was awful last year.

UAB at UTSA(-7.5): HIT! I’m not really sure where this line came from. I can tell you that I am looking forward to the Blazers in a bowl game though. They deserve it!

Tulane(-5.5) at East Carolina: HIT! I am seriously surprised that ECU was able to keep it this close. Maybe that defense is finally improving.

New Mexico at Texas A&M(-17.5): HIT! This did get ugly quick. It was 48-7 at halftime!

Old Dominion at Florida International(-9.5): HIT! This did stay a one score game…..with ODU winning!

Tennessee at Missouri (-17.5): HIT! I predicted a 30 point win for the Tigers. They won by 32. Maybe I should be setting these lines! And Butch did get the axe. That’s two predictions in one! I should get extra credit!

Notre Dame(-3.5) at Miami(FL): HIT! I couldn’t have been more wrong about the three point game. I did expect Miami to win, but not by nearly that much. That was a statement win for the Hurricanes. I think you can safely say that they are back.

TCU at Oklahoma(-6.5): HIT! I really did think this would be a close game. Of course, this is the time of the year that Oklahoma doesn’t lose. Only early, then the playoff.

Arizona State at UCLA(-3.5): MISS! The logic was sound. I just didn’t take into account how utterly bad the Arizona State defense could be.

Oregon State at Arizona(-21.5): MISS! I knew I didn’t like that half…..

Wyoming at Air Force(-3.5): HIT! This line made absolutely no sense. I should have put five on this one as well.

Boise State(-6.5) at Colorado State: HIT! I got lucky here. Anytime a game goes into OT and you still get a 6.5 spread, you are pretty fortunate.

Fresno State(-10.5) at Hawaii: HIT! I did get it because of that half!

I had my best week of the year this week, going 35-24 against the spread. That’s tougher than it sounds! That puts my season total at 318-279 for a total of 53.3% on the season. I am getting closer to my goal, but as you can see, at this point of the season, it really takes a lot to move the line! Now for the good part: did I actually win money?

This week’s totals follow the number. The season totals are in parentheses.

1. 4-2 (45-44) = 1
2. 12-10 (114-97) = 34
3. 9-8 (93-75) = 54
4. 6-3 (44-43) = 4
5. 4-1 (22-20) = 10

I got back on track on my five pointers this week, and gained a healthy 36 points! That puts me at +103 on the season! I also used a strong week to gain points at every point bet, and am now in the black on all of them!
