March Madness Bracket Predictions – East Region Sweet 16
7 Michigan State vs. 3 Kansas State
The Spartans actually opened as favorites in this game thanks to an impressive upset victory over Marquette and Tom Izzo’s prowess in March Madness games. That status is a bit of a disservice to Kansas State, the top seed left in the East Region and one that is battle tested from playing all season long in the Big 12. The Wildcats defense will clamp down Michigan State’s perimeter play and send the Spartans home to extend the Big Ten’s streak of consecutive years without a national championship to 23.
Pick: Kansas State
9 Florida Atlantic vs. 4 Tennessee
The Volunteers are the nation’s most efficient defensive team according to KenPom and lived up to that billing with a lockdown clinic against Duke on Saturday. The loss of Zakai Ziegler still limits this team’s offensive upside, however, and that could be a problem against a Florida Atlantic team that has won 33 games this season. The Owls are more dynamic and will make enough plays to win a slugfest with the Vols as Rick Barnes’ shaky March Madness history resurfaces with a few critical late-game mistakes.
Pick: Florida Atlantic
March Madness Bracket Predictions – East Region Elite Eight
9 Florida Atlantic vs. 3 Kansas State
While the Owls are definitely playing with house money, Kansas State is simply the better basketball team at this juncture. Jerome Tang has done a tremendous job building a winner with playmakers like Markquis Nowell and Keyonte Johnson leading the way. K-State gets the job done and reaches the Final Four for the first time since 1964.
Pick: Kansas State
