Who are the top five NFL Draft picks for the Kansas City Chiefs of all time?

Whenever a top five of all time list is compiled, there is never a right answer. Some will overvalue a player, some will undervalue, and this all leads to different people having different rankings. What it does do, however, is lead to a wonderful discussion about a variety of topics. This particular all time list will lead to a discussion of many of the wonderful players that we have had the pleasure of watching play in the red and gold of the Kansas City Chiefs throughout the years.

There have been some truly terrible teams in Kansas City. The 2-14 team of 2012 is one such team. The 22-year playoff drought, which did play host to some decent sides, indicates the poor national success that the Chiefs have had over the years.

And while there have been some seasons to endure, there have also been some to celebrate. Many of the years under Marty Schottenheimer and the ’90s, while they did not lead to deep playoff runs, consisted of a great defense, some great running backs and good, though frustrating, years.

Even further back, the Chiefs enjoyed great success in the late ’60s early ’70s, winning the Super Bowl in 1969. Their success was founded on great defense, and many of the players that created such a historic defense were drafted by Hank Stram and developed into some of the greatest Chiefs throughout history.

There have been some truly exceptional players play for the Kansas City Chiefs, and some will be on this list. There will be others who do not make this list who many will think are deserving of such high accolades. Whatever the case, it will lead to a discussion of many of the wonderful players that have played for Kansas City over the years. We start with a long serving guard.
