Fans who aren’t season ticket holders may not be able to purchase a team sweater until August.

Fans still haven’t seen mock-ups of the sweaters that Las Vegas will wear in its inaugural season because production of Golden Knights jerseys has been held up by the NHL’s recent change in uniform providers.

Adidas has just taken over production of official league and team sweaters for the NHL. That means that Adidas not only has to produce the new sweaters for Vegas’ first season, but sweaters for the NHL’s 30 other more seasoned franchises as well. That has the situation of when the general public – fans who don’t have season tickets and therefore a sweater reserved for them – will be able to buy sweaters in flux.

According to team president Kerry Bubolz in a Las Vegas Review-Journal article, the team is waiting to hear from the league on the matter. He did commit to the team taking preorders online once the NHL decides on an unveiling date.

Much of how soon that unveil date will come is going to depend on the relationship with Adidas. The design will have to be approved by the team and the league, though that step of the process is likely to occur sooner rather than later. The expansion draft is just over a month away, followed by the entry draft just days later. It would be awkward for Vegas entry draftees to be the only ones not able to put on team sweaters after being selected.

While the situation being up in the air right now isn’t ideal, it could actually work in the Golden Knights’ favor. The delay is likely to increase demand, and it’s uncertain how many sweaters will be available on the first run. Buying a season ticket package is a surefire way for fans to get a sweater.

For fans who choose not to go that route, the best option will be to watch for news of the team beginning to take preorders and hope that Adidas can fill those orders quickly.
