NFL Free Agency Rumors: Anquan Boldin Reject Baltimore Ravens Offer
By Josh Sanchez
The Baltimore Ravens made a contract offer to to wide receiver Anquan Boldin that would have resulted in a pay cut for the veteran, but Boldin was not interested in the offer and is preparing for free agency.
"After the Ravens’ Super Bowl XLVII victory against the San Francisco 49ers, Boldin told NBC Sports Radio that he would retire if released by the Ravens.“I think he was trying to express loyalty to them,” the person said of Boldin. “I know that he’s hoping to stay with them, but he’s willing to go someplace else.”The person said that the Ravens’ proposal to the 10-year pro did not include an exten-sion.It’s still possible that a deal could be struck before Tuesday. Even with receivers Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones in tow, releasing Boldin would be a huge blow for the Ravens, who locked up Super Bowl MVP quarterback Joe Flacco with a record, six-year, $120.6 million contract on Monday."
Boldin was instrumental in the Ravens success throughout the postseason and often times bailed out Joe Flacco. As a result of Boldin’s playoff performance, the Ravens were able to win the Super Bowl and Flacco turned the success into a big payday.
It will be interesting to see whether or not Boldin will follow through with his plans for retirement if the Ravens cut him loose or if he will have one final hurrah in his career.
