The St. Louis Rams have opted not to retain their defensive coordinatorTim Walton according to Jim Thomas, a beat writer for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.  The timing seems a little odd given that the Rams did not have any major shakeups in the coaching staff or front office to this point.

There has been no explanation as to the reason for this, but it stands to reason the Rams have someone in house they want to promote and take the job or they have someone else specific in mind.  Otherwise, an issue arose within the organization that caused this move and the Rams are in a position where they have to find a defensive coordinator with the market already thin.

The Rams have one of the most talented set of defensive ends in the league with Chris Long and Robert Quinn, plus some young talent at other spots.  They are also slotted to pick #2 in the upcoming NFL Draft with the first of two first round picks, so the team could be in great shape to add more talent, making the job that much more attractive.
