The New York Jets have used the NFL Franchise Tag for the first time since 2011 when linebacker David Harris received the designation. This time, the Jest dusted off the tag to place it on kicker Nick Folk.

NewYorkJets.com initially made the announcement, and provided some reasoning behind the move.

"Folk in 2013 enjoyed arguably his best season in seven seasons as a pro and four seasons with the Jets. For starters he hit the game-winning field goals in the season opener against Tampa Bay and then at Atlanta and at home in overtime against New England. He remains among the NFL’s most accurate fourth-quarter kickers of the past 25 seasons. Those game-winning kicks were three of the career-high 33 field goals he made in 36 attempts for a career-high 91.7% accuracy, including a perfect 3-for-3 on 50-yards-plus tries."

Folk broke several franchise records for the Jets last year, including 23 consecutive field goals to begin the season and 20 straight FGs at home. He also booted 30 touchbacks last season.
