There are very strange things that become customary to certain professional sports teams, as fans latch onto the most random aspect of cheering for their team and engrave it into the very essence of their fandom. Look no further than Green Bay Packers fans getting overly excited about anything John Kuhn does as an example of this.

Fans shouting his last name in unison has become a staple at Lambeau Field, but with the fullback hitting free agency this week, there’s a chance that all the Kuhn-ing could come to an end.

According to ESPN.com blogger Rob Demovsky, the Packers re-signing Kuhn and returning him to their starting lineup in 2014 is actually a lot more likely than fans think.

"Even though John Kuhn will hit the open market, as we reported on Thursday, there’s still a decent chance he could return. The fullback position isn’t highly coveted, so it’s unlikely there will be an immediate and strong interest in Kuhn. When he does sign, we should expect it to be for a modest deal further into the free-agency period."

Even if Kuhn doesn’t re-sign with the Packers, he’ll likely have to wait until the third wave of free agency to find a contract. Fullbacks aren’t what they used to be but Kuhn returning to Green Bay seems to be the most likely outcome to his venture into free agency this offseason.
