With their new, defensive-oriented coach in Lovie Smith, you would certainly expect that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be in search of a top-notch defensive player during the Free Agency period, and it seems that’s exactly what they’re doing as they are reportedly making a run at Bengals defensive end Michael Johnson.

This move would be a great way to get the new era ushered in in Tampa, and Smith could definitely get a lot of good use out of the versatile Johnson in a variety of different ways.

One of the attributes that makes him so appealing is his versatility for someone his size, especially his ability to drop into pass coverage.

But still, that’s just an added bonus, as we’re sure that Lovie would utilize his pass-rushing abilities the most and use him as the anchor to build a dominant defense in Tampa once again.
