Former Oregon Ducks running back/wide receiver/kick returner/Swiss Army knife De’Anthony Thomas didn’t have the NFL combine performance scouts were anticipating, recording a 40-yard dash time barely faster than the one turned in by South Carolina Gamecocks defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. This caused some idiots people to claim Thomas had to “prove” his speed at Oregon’s pro day — you know, as if all these highlights weren’t proof enough that he’s pretty gosh darn fast — or risk having his “draft stock” plummet.

In what will hopefully put an end to all the dumb projections and tsk-tsk-ing, Thomas clocked a 4.39-second 40-yard dash on Thursday. (That’s the official time as reported by the University of Oregon, but some scouts clocked him as fast as 4.34.) So there you have it, doubters: De’Anthony Thomas is indeed fast (again, because we obviously didn’t know that before).
