Boston Red Sox hope to avoid another Toronto sweep
By Cory Buck
The Boston Red Sox are the defending champs and they’ve been one of the best teams in baseball over the last decade plus. Don’t tell that to the Toronto Blue Jays though. For the third time since 2012, The Jays have a chance to sweep the Red Sox in Fenway Park. For a Toronto team that has struggled with consistency since this, it’s surprising to see that much success in another team’s ball park. Such is life in the AL East. The Blue Jays aim to start a new era in the franchise and such a time starts with beating teams like Boston in their own park.

The Jays won on Tuesday thanks to a pair of Edwin Encarnacion bombs, but the home runs won’t come so easy tonight. Jon Lester gets the start for the Red Sox. Lester has had some bad luck in the wins column (4-5) but his ERA is a solid 2.67 and he’s already got 73 Ks on the season. If Toronto wants another Fenway sweep, they will have to beat the best guy Boston has on the mound.
The Blue Jays meanwhile start veteran pitcher Mark Buerhle tonight, who has been an absolute monster this season. The man is like a fine vintage, perfecting with age.
This game shapes up to be a wonderful pitcher’s duel, so of course expect a wild 10-8 affair with both pitchers chased early.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:05PM EST. Boston fans can catch the game on NESN. Toronto fans can tune into SNET.
