David Ortiz has mad beef with the Fenway Park official scorer, but Joe Torre ain’t having it. Torre has told Papi to back up a few steps, take a deep breath and stop throwing shade at the poor Fenway park scorer.

More from Boston Red Sox

Ortiz became enraged after the Fenway scorer, whose name apparently is a state secret since no outlet will mention it, took a hit away from him by charging an error to Joe Mauer on a hard hit ball. Ortiz made gestures at the scorer during the game, and afterward ranted about the home official not having his back.

Because it’s the scorer’s job to hand out free hits, don’t you know.

MLB discipline czar Joe Torre is now playing the role of the adult in the situation, telling Papi to tone it down like a million notches. Torre’s statement on the matter reads as follows:

"Official scorers have a job to do, and by their very nature, their decisions don’t make everyone happy. But everyone in our game deserves respect. I hope that David will meet that standard going forward, because I don’t share the same views that he expressed.Official scorers should never give any benefit of the doubt to the home team. We want their best judgment, based on the rules. We have a process to review the decisions that our scorers make. Even when there are inevitable disagreements, we expect everybody to act professionally and respect the game and the integrity of our scorers."

So there you have it David Ortiz, straight from the mouth of Joe Torre. Stop giving scorers crap because they don’t score the game the way you want. Keep your glares and your angry post-game comments to yourself. Go out there and play the game like a professional, not a whiny jerk.
