There’s a reason you seldom see baseball players get hit by a pitch after swinging at it. It’s because doing that is dang near impossible. But Tuesday night Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo somehow managed to do it anyway.

More from Chicago Cubs

Rizzo takes a full manly hack and winds up getting hit in the leg for his efforts. In case you’re wondering, that’s a strike. You don’t get first base if you swing at the pitch and miss and then it hits you. Sorry, but you’re SOL on that one. It’s a strike and a welt.

Aw, I feel sort of sorry for Anthony Rizzo, don’t you? Here’s what I think we should do to make Rizzo feel better: let’s all go vote for him as the last man into the All-Star Game. Wouldn’t that be nice?

Plus, you know, he sort of deserves to be in the All-Star Game based on his numbers. There’s that also.
