When the final whistle sounded, Club America did just enough to avoid disappointment and came out on top with a 3-2 win.

To start off the scoring, Pablo Aguilar was able to beat Morelia goalie Carlos Rodriguez with a header from close range.

As soon as that goal went into the back of the net, Morelia, who sits next to last in the league table, could have conceded to the No. 1 team in Liga MX. Instead, they dug deep.

After regrouping at the half, Duvier Riascos answered back for Morelia with the equalizer in the 52nd minute.

With Riascos’ goal, Club America was in danger of coming away without three points for the first time in the Apertura tournament. However, Rubens Sambueza answered the call four minutes later with a booming shot from outside of the box to put Las Aguilas back in front, 2-1.

America seemed to be well on their way to securing yet another win, but in the 76th minute the strong effort from Morelia paid off again with a goal from David Depetris to even the score at two goals a piece.

After the score was even at two, both sides were digging deep to find the game-winner.

Morelia was trying desperately to hang on and to at least escape Estadio Azteca with one point, but with three minutes of overtime Las Aguilas took advantage of an opening and Mexican international star Oribe Peralta came through in the clutch with a goal in the 93rd minute to give Club America the 3-2 win in a heart-breaker for Morelia.
