Joe Theismann: Kirk Cousins would be ‘the man’ if allowed to compete with RG3

Legendary Super Bowl winning QB Joe Theismann has no doubt who would prevail in a QB competition between current Washington starter Robert Griffin III and current #2 Kirk Cousins. It would be Cousins by a landslide.

More from NFL

Theismann offered a harsh assessment of RG3 after the QB’s poor performance vs. the Ravens on Saturda (via CSNWashington.com):

"“Let’s stop beating around the bush. Kirk Cousins has played much better at the quarterback position than Robert Griffin III has. Now Robert is, basically like we talked about, learning to work out of a pocket. He doesn’t look as smooth and as comfortable throwing the football, I mean, your eyes will tell you everything you need to know. It’s going to be a decision that Jay Gruden is going to have to make, who … Right now, Robert Griffin III is his quarterback. Now, if there was a quarterback competition, it wouldn’t be a competition. Kirk Cousins would be the man I believe he would have to go to because of the efficiency with which he has run [the offense].”"

Unfortunately for Cousins, the Redskins have already made up their minds that RG3 is the guy, and displays of ineptitude like the one RG3 put on Saturday don’t factor in.

The only way Cousins starts for Washington is if RG3 suffers a terrible misfortune. Like, if someone came out of nowhere and bashed him in the kneecap with a crow bar. Not to be a Gillooly about it.

Sounds like Joe Theismann might be willing to wield the crow bar.
