Dez Bryant isn’t blowing hot air for once. The Dallas Cowboys receiver says he expects to have a new contract signed before the season starts, and owner Jerry Jones confirms that there’s a good possibility the contract will get done in that short time frame.

More from Dallas Cowboys

Bryant talked about his hopes for a new deal via Star-Telegram.com:

"“I honestly feel like what I do, sooner or later, I’m going to get what I deserve,” Bryant said. “I believe it. That’s why I don’t stress about it. There’s no need to stress about it. It’s coming. I know it’s coming, so no need to worry about it.”"

Bryant says there’s a “big chance” the deal could be in place before the season kicks off Sept. 7, and Jerry Jones concurs:

"“I wouldn’t refute that. I just wouldn’t,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. “I think that’s the best way to respond to that. He’s got a good sense of it. He obviously feels in the right circumstances he wants to get something done. We do, too. That can be good.”"

Bryant says that if for some reason the deal isn’t completed by the opener, he wants negotiations to cease until after the season so he can concentrate on football.

Should the contract not get done, Bryant will make a paltry $1.78 million this year. I’m sure he would be content with that and not make any trouble, blow up at anyone, gesticulate wildly in ways that express his irritation or otherwise act out.
