It was a good news, bad news kind of day for the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

More from Jacksonville Jaguars

The good news was the fact that they cruised to an easy 41-10 win at home over the Jacksonville Jaguars to even their record at 1-1 for the season. The bad news was the fact that Washington lost two key players to injury: quarterback Robert Griffin III and wide receiver Desean Jackson.

Griffin’s injury will steal the headlines away from the results on the field, and rightfully so. In an unfortunate non-contact injury situation, RGIII dislocated his ankle after landing awkwardly. One did not need to know the diagnosis to know that the injury was serious and that he will be out for a long time.

As for Jackson’s injury, it was a shoulder injury that cost him the rest of the game. The team will evaluate him further as they try to decide his status moving forward.

On the field the Redskins were able to win despite those injuries. It was a complete team effort, with quarterback Kirk Cousins stepping in and leading an impressive performance from the Washington offense. He completed his first nine passes and ended up with 250 yards and two touchdowns.

His favorite target proved to be back-up tight end Niles Paul, called into action because of an injury to Jordan Reed. Paul ended the day with eight catches, 99 yards, and this beautiful touchdown.

Running back Alfred Morris also chipped in an impressive effort, running for 85 yards and two touchdowns.

But this win wasn’t just about the offense for the Redskins. Their defense made life miserable for Chad Henne and the Jacksonville offense, sacking Henne an incredible 10 times and refusing to let the Jaguars get anything going all game.

Now the Redskins will turn their attention back to their franchise quarterback Griffin, and the likelihood that they will be proceeding with Cousins behind center for the foreseeable future.

As for the Jaguars, let’s just say that things aren’t going well for them.
