The Minnesota Vikings are known by many around the league as having the highest arrest record of all the team in the NFL.  In a week that has seen the team deal with its star player, Adrian Peterson, be indicted for child abuse, the hits keep coming.  Suspended wide receiver Jerome Simpson is the culprit this time.

Currently serving a three game suspension for a DUI Simpson picked up last year, Simpson was again in trouble with the law.  Hennepin County court records indicate that Simpson was pulled over at a traffic stop, and although he was not arrested, he was charged with marijuana possession, open bottle and violating terms of a limited drivers license.

The event in question is said to have taken place on July 7th, 2014, and while the Vikings are aware of the situation, they have yet to comment.

Simpson has already had two suspensions for substance abuse issues in the NFL, and a third wouldn’t bode well for him seeing the field any time soon.

Simpson has a November 3, 2014 court date for the offense.

Minnesota just can’t escape the negative publicity right now.  After a drubbing by the New England Patriots on Sunday, the hits keep on coming.  Coach Mike Zimmer has to be itching for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints for an opportunity to change the headlines.

For Simpson, an already marginal talent, the fact that he can’t seem to stay out of trouble doesn’t bode well for his time in Minnesota.  Adam Thielen has performed well in his absence, along with the meteoric rise to superstardom by Cordarrelle Patterson, Simpson is making himself a very replaceable talent.

Minnesota plays at the Superdome on Sunday at 12pm central time.
