New England Patriots (-14) over Oakland Raiders

The Raiders are bad.

That is the crux of the decision to pick the Patriots here, as only the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars can be considered to be in the “class” of Oakland from a futility perspective. Throw in the fact that I believe that the Patriots are, without question, a top-5 team in the NFL that happens to be playing on their home field, and the pick comes into view.

Tom Brady has been underwhelming through two weeks, but he will every opportunity to feast on what is a ghastly Oakland defense, and the Pats possess their best defensive talent since the early 2000’s. There is a reason that this is the highest line in the NFL this season, and I pick the Patriots to cover with confidence.
