One writer believes the Oakland Raiders should do whatever they can to hire Texas A&M Aggies’ head coach Kevin Sumlin

Every time the Oakland Raiders fire a head coach, several big names reportedly pop up on their radar.

This time, the hot name is former Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ head coach Jon Gruden.

Raiders’ owner Mark Davis thinks the job is very “enticing” because of their cap space and the Raiders have admitted they may contact Gruden. In fact, according to one report, they are prepared to spend a lot of money on Gruden. Although Gruden has a fantastic gig working Monday Night Football, some believe he is very intrigued by Raiders’ rookie quarterback Derek Carr and may be interested in the job.

If the Raiders do plan on spending big bucks and can’t land Gruden, Mark Whicker of The USA Today believes they should throw that money at Texas A&M Aggies’ head coach Kevin Sumlin.

"If not, the Raiders should look at the best available personnel men. A.J. Smith, late of the Chargers, comes to mind. And if Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin can be persuaded to leave his good life to take on this toxic cleanup project, he should be pursued relentlessly."

Kevin Sumlin was 35-17 in four years with the Houston Cougars and is currently 25-16 at Texas A&M. However, Kevin Sumlin has never coached in the NFL.
