Report: Raiders prepared to spend ‘a lot of money’ on Jon Gruden

The Oakland Raiders attempting to hire Jon Gruden as its next head coach seems inevitable at this point.

Raiders owner Mark Davis admitted on Tuesday that the team “might” pursue him, but all indications are that their pursuit of him is definite.

The latest sign: NFL.com is reporting that Oakland is willing to spend “a lot of money” on Gruden, who currently is a broadcaster for ESPN.

"Silver told NFL Total Access on Tuesday that an “emotional connection” still exists between Gruden and the Raiders, with sources telling him “that there have been overtures, even before this, to Jon Gruden — that Mark Davis is prepared to spend a lot of money, because that’s what it would take to pry Jon out of the booth and back to Oakland.”"

Gruden is a no-brainer pick for Oakland, if it can get him. Gruden has become one of the more respected football minds with a Super Bowl victory on his resume and a broadcasting career that has brought him much fame.

Gruden’s presence would inject new energy and bring optimism for the franchise, something the team clearly desires.

"Oakland’s interest in Gruden — who coached the Raiders from 1998 to 2001 — confirms what NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport noted Monday night, saying that Oakland is looking for a “superstar” coach who can generate wins on the field and in “every single aspect” of the franchise."

Gruden amassed a 95-81 record during his coaching career.
