The Dallas Mavericks made a big splash in NBA free agency prying Chandler Parsons away from the Houston Rockets. The honey moon is over as training camp begins and Parsons is learning the hard way about a Rick Carlisle ran camp.

“He’s persistent, man,” Parsons said, via the Dallas Morning News. “He’s all over me.

“They [practices] have been tough. There’s been a lot of conditioning, a lot of running and then also a lot of teaching and putting in all the new sets and terminology. We have so many new faces that we’ve got to start pretty much from scratch and make sure everyone is on the same page, running through our offense and our defensive strategies.

“Rick keeps it very, very structured. He’s always in control of it. It is a lot of five-on-zero. But it is a lot of conditioning, and he keeps adding stuff every day.”

Parsons acknowledged being heavy coming into training camp but played down any concerns over it, reminding everyone it is common for players going through free agency.

“No one’s really in game shape in training camp,” Parsons said. “But all summer, I emphasized getting stronger and working on my body. With the whole free agency thing, I couldn’t really compete and play because I couldn’t risk getting hurt. So I did get heavier than usual. But I’m getting in better shape every day, and I’ll be ready to go when the games start.”
