Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers came out hot and put the Carolina Panthers away early as Green Bay cruised to their fourth straight win

The Green Bay Packers pounced on the Carolina Panthers from the opening kick and put away Cam Newton and last year’s NFC South champion early as they built a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter en route to a 38-17 drubbing in a matchup of playoff teams from a year ago.

Rodgers finished with three touchdowns and 255 yards on 19-of-22 passing as he was dialed in from the beginning as he continued to build on his MVP campaign. On the opening possession, Rodgers found Jordy Nelson for a 59-yard touchdown at the 11:51 mark in the quarter and from there the rout was on.

Eddie Lacy was the next Packer to find the end zone as he ran to the right end for a five-yard jaunt to put the Packers up 14-0 and James Starks made it 21-0 at the end of the first when he found paydirt from 13 yards out as that would be all the offense Green Bay would need on the afternoon.

Lacy finished with 12 carries and 63 yards, Starks added seven carries for 36 yards and the Packers averaged 4.1 yards per carry to complement the passing prowess of Rodgers on the afternoon as they improved to 5-2 on the year.

The Packer defense got three sacks on the day with 1.5 to Julius Peppers, Casey Hayward picked off a pass from Newton and first round pick Ha Ha Clint0n-Dix led the team with nine total tackles as the defense held the Panthers to 331 total yards of offense, much of them coming in the second half with the game already decided.

Randall Cobb got in on the fun in the second quarter with a three-yard touchdown reception and he finished with a game-high 121 yards on six receptions. Davante Adams showed up again with a 21-yard touchdown catch to open the third quarter and Mason Crosby booted a field goal as the Packers took a 38-3 lead to the fourth quarter.

The Panthers got a pair of garbage-time touchdowns as Kelvin Benjamin caught a touchdown from Newton and Brenton Bersin had a one-yard score from Derek Anderson in the final 90 seconds of the game.

Newton finished with 205 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 17-of-31 passing. Newton also chipped in with 41 rushing yards as Jonathan Stewart led the Panthers with 55 yards in his return to the lineup from injury. Greg Olsen led the Panthers with a game-high eight catches for 105 yards.
