Belmont University guard Jeff Laidig hit an 80-foot buzzer beater at the end of the first half of their game against Wright State.
It almost seems unfair that Belmont lost a basketball game in which one of its players hit a full-court buzzer beater, but when that shot beats the first half buzzer, it just doesn’t have the same ramifications. So it went for the Belmont University men’s basketball team after guard Jeff Laidig hit a three-point from beneath his own basket as time expired in the first half.

How many times do you see that ball go in as a swish, let alone go in at all? What a shot. You’d think that alone would create enough momentum for Belmont to come out in the second half and roll through Wright State, but you’d think wrong if so.
Wright State actually ended up winning the game 79-71, so maybe that shot motivated those guys instead of the other way around. Either way, no regrets from our end of things. Rare is the 80-foot shot that goes in without clanking the rim or bouncing off the backboard. Good on you, Jeff Laidig. Better luck next time to the rest of the Belmont squad.
