Report: Stevie Johnson expected to be released from 49ers
By Andrew Ross
Stevie Johnson is a seven-year vet, and it looks like he will need to find his third team to play on in his career.
During the NFL draft last year, the San Fransisco 49ers traded a conditional fourth-rounder to the Buffalo Bills for the very talented receiver Stevie Johnson.

It looks like Johnson was auditioning for the team this year, because it is reported that the 49ers are already wanting to part ways with the three-time, 1,000-yard wide receiver, and it might be to help open some room to keep players like Michael Crabtree.
Johnson could only play in 13 games this year for San Francisco, and in those games he totaled 35 catches (on 50 targets) for 435 yards and three touchdowns.
Johnson didn’t do much in his first couple of seasons as a member of the Buffalo Bills, but the 49ers were hoping they would be getting the player who had a monster three-year run from 2010-2012.
In that three-season span, Johnson had 237 catches for 3,123 yards and 23 touchdowns.
One of Johnson’s biggest downfalls was the fact that is also seemed like he had some sort of injury, and the only time he ever played all 16 games in a season was each year during the aforementioned three-year run. He has missed a total of 23 games over the other four seasons he has played.
Although Johnson has been spiraling down during these last two years, I still think he is incredibly talented and it shows whenever he plays. The system in San Francisco probably wasn’t the best for him last year, and I think he can be a really good number three (or many even number two) receiver for a team that will utilize him correctly.
I just hope Johnson can get back to that place in his game where he was always having fun when he was on the field.
