Montreal bar brings Canada its first Stanley Cup in over 20 years (photo)
An NHL team has yet to bring a Stanley Cup to Canada during the 21st century, but Bar Brutus in Montreal is giving Canadians an opportunity to finally get a taste of The Cup, literally.
Canada is undeniably one of the biggest hotbeds in the world when it comes to producing elite hockey prospects, but that enormous talent pool has not helped the country at all in achieving NHL glory.
Despite an unquestioned prowess on the ice for international competition, Canadian hockey teams have struggled tremendously in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The last time a team from north of the border hoisted Lord Stanley’s Cup was in 1993, when the Montreal Canadians did so 22 years ago.
Fortunately for hockey fans in Montreal, one local establishment is offering customers a glimpse at The Cup, or at least their interesting, bacon-filled take on the coveted trophy.
The monument was carefully constructed by the ambitious people at Bar Brutus, a bar and eatery located on Montreal’s north side. As you can imagine, their menu features an array of bacon-themed dishes.
Bar Brutus is far from the first establishment to feature outlandish bacon-themed dishes, but you will be hard pressed to find an effort as impressive and creative as the one they have put together with their Stanley Cup tribute.
Here are a few of the close runner ups that bacon lovers will appreciate, via the Huffington Post:
- You can purchase bacon flavored envelopes, just in case you find taste of sealing an envelope unbearable.
- There are bacon flavored toothpicks and dental floss, for those individuals who enjoy the taste of bacon so much they prefer to take it with them everywhere they go.
- The last spot on the list goes to the creation of Baconnaise. As the title suggests, the product is a pure combination of fat-on-fat-on-fat. The bacon and mayonnaise mixture is quite possibly the most lethal mix of fat and unhealthiness available on the market.
Bar Brutus appears to have scaled back from their competitors in the bacon game, and have been successful in creating some very popular and enjoyable options that are not quite as intense as their life-size edible Stanley Cup.
Hockey fans in Montreal and all over Canada have been desperately waiting for a Stanley Cup for what I can imagine feels like an eternity. With the Montreal Canadiens standing atop the NHL standings, however, Canada very well could be on the verge of getting its first taste of the elusive trophy in over two decades, this time minus the bacon.
