The Chicago Bears are looking at trade offers for starting tight end Martellus Bennett ahead of the NFL Draft this week.

The NFL Draft is this week, and now is the time when teams begin to make moves that either tip their hand to what they are planning or act as smokescreens to throw other front offices off their scent.

Chicago Bears fans are hoping that their team can turn it around after two down years, and the new regime is already starting to shed what the old regime was building. Brandon Marshall was traded to the New York Jets, Charles Tillman is gone, the defense is getting revamped and Jay Cutler’s future is in flux.

Martellus Bennett could be the next domino to fall — and exit — in Chicago.

According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Chicago Bears are open to trading tight end Martellus Bennett and are entertaining offers ahead of the draft.

Many teams are eying Maxx Williams as a potential target in the draft thanks to his comparisons to Rob Gronkowski. That wouldn’t be who the Bears select with the No. 7 overall pick, but acquiring additional picks later in the draft in a trade involving Bennett might give Chicago ammo to move up and take Williams.

Then again, the team has a number of needs that they should consider filling with draft selections, and moving Bennett helps make this happen. It also gets rid of someone the Bears have been on the fence about as John Fox’s purging of Marc Trestman’s regime continues.

Jay Cutler seems to be safe, for now, but everyone else is on notice and no one is safe when it comes to the Bears making trades that better them for the future.
