Real Madrid exit Champions League: Twitter reacts
By Kris Whelan
Juventus have produced somewhat of a shock by knocking out defending champions Real Madrid from the Champions League
Even though Real Madrid needed to overcome a 2-1 deficit when they came in to this game, they were still favorites to advance to the final at the the expense of Italian side Juventus.
Things seemed to be going to plan when Cristiano Ronaldo stuck away a penalty following some poor defending by Georgio Chiellini. Everyone in the stadium and around the world expected Real Madrid to push on from that goal and secure the victory.
That wasn’t to be the case however as former Real Madrid player Alvaro Morata scored from a half volley following Madrid’s failure to clear the ball after an Andrea Pirlo free kick.
Madrid did everything in their power to get back in the game and bring the fixture to extra time, but to say that it was all Real wouldn’t be fair to Juventus as they too had some great chances to put the game beyond doubt. In the end, Juventus hung on to book their Champions League final date against Barcelona.
A lot of people are surprised with the outcome of the game and here are some of the best reactions from twitter:
