Matt Kemp reels in crazy catch against the Reds

San Diego Padre Matt Kemp had a full Friday evening, which included a ridiculous catch and a quasi-public service announcement.

Cincinnati Reds fans, much like many other MLB fan bases, may still find it weird to see Matt Kemp in San Diego Padres colors instead Los Angeles Dodgers blue. In the bottom of the third inning, Kemp made a crazy catch that had everybody rubbing their eyes for a different reason.

Kemp started the evening by knocking a first-inning single to load the bases and preemptively ruin Jon Moscot’s major league debut for the Reds. In the third inning, Kemp had that amazing circus catch off the bat of Todd Frazier. Then the piece of résistance in the 7th inning: he would try to salvage the eating habits of a few Cincinnati faithful.

Kemp had struck out to end the top of the 7th, his second off the game. It is a fair guess that when he took the field in the bottom of the inning, he was greeted by these boisterous fans. However the conversation started, it ended up becoming a quasi-public service announcement by the ballplayer.

You can clearly read Kemp’s lips saying “stop eating” while making different gestures to get his message across. You can also clearly see that he was joking around with the fans chuckling at his antics.

Chit-chat between fans and corner outfielders happens at every baseball game, and at every venue. It’s always nice to see when fans share a laugh with a member of the opposing team.
