26: Boston Red Sox

ACQUIRED: INF Josh Rutledge (from Angels), RHP Ryan Cook (from Athletics)

TRADED: OF Shane Victorino (to Angels)

Fans in New England are arguably among the most disappointed in baseball. After watching their favorite team plop down a ton of money on free agents in an attempt to rebuild the roster, the Red Sox have seen next to no return of investment on the money spent. As such, Ben Cherington and team were expected to be active at the deadline, either dumping contracts or buying up others in order to boost the roster for 2015.

The Red Sox accomplished none of that.

Boston was able to ship out spare outfielder Shane Victorino, but netted only journeyman Josh Rutledge in the process, and managed to get reliever Ryan Cook in a minor deal with the Oakland Athletics. However, the legwork the Boston front office did leading into the deadline ultimately led them to nothing in return.

The Red Sox will still have some ammo to fire in August, with Mike Napoli being a prime trade candidate, but it looks like the ill-advised spending of last winter will be a touch pill to swallow for at least another season.
