Dirk Nowitzki won’t give Justin Anderson a high-five (Video)
Mavericks rookie Justin Anderson apparently needs to learn his place with Dirk
Dirk Nowitzki had a monster night in a relatively big game for the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. With the Los Angeles Clippers and DeAndre Jordan coming to town, there were a lot of emotions in play, stemming from Jordan’s perceived betrayal of the Mavericks this offseason. However, the wily German was out of his mind on Wednesday, including the dagger late in the fourth quarter.
After hitting that huge shot for the Mavs, Dirk’s teammates were obviously pretty hyped up about being that much closer to picking up a victory. They all came in to congratulate with Nowitzki and celebrate, including rookie Justin Anderson. Dirk exchanged high-fives and daps with everyone, except the rookie; Anderson was just left hanging multiple times:
If this is some sort of rookie hazing, it’s one of the greatest things that I’ve ever seen. Anderson taps Dirk in the chest a few times trying to get his attention and the big veteran doesn’t even acknowledge it. Then when he finally turns Anderson’s way, he just goes right past him. It’s comedic gold.
Dirk is pretty inarguably one of the best players of the past decade and, though he’s coming to the end of his run in this league, he’s still capable of games like this one on Wednesday night. Anderson needs to learn that you have to earn the right to celebrate with a player like that. Learn your role, rook.
