2. Nick Saban

At one point in the NFL, it looked like all fans would be treated to a lifetime rivalry of Nick Saban against Bill Belichick. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, as both coaches went on to have a great amount of success at different levels of football.

Belichick has won a bunch of Super Bowls, while Saban has won a lot of national championships in college. Saban tried the NFL route, but it didn’t work and he came back to college. To get him to go back to the NFL, it’s going to take a lot of money and a chance for him to succeed.

In Indianapolis, Saban would have the potential to succeed by having Andrew Luck as a quarterback. There’s also already been rumors about Jim Irsay doing whatever it’s going to take to get Nick Saban once the season is over.

Leaving Alabama isn’t going to be easy, but if the Colts get him, they instantly make the inevitable game between him and Belichick, one of the most hyped up games in NFL history. The two used to coach together and the chance to be rivals would certainly create a lot of interest.

While they were rivals with Saban coaching the Miami Dolphins, it never turned into anything as Saban was gone soon after back to college. The history between the Colts and the Patriots has been some of the best for more than the past decade.

If Irsay wants a home run hire to follow Pagano going, then Saban would certainly be that hire. It’s the longest of all long shots, but it is fun to think about.
