Tennessee Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger runs straight up the middle for a 5-yard touchdown scramble against the Indianapolis Colts.

The second-year quarterback out of LSU caught the Colts defense completely off guard by scrambling up the middle for a reasonably easy 5-yard touchdown run. This marks the first rushing touchdown of Mettenberger’s career, despite the fact that he is been in the league for almost two years now. The touchdown came moments after Josh Freeman’s pass was intercepted by Titans safety Da’Norris Searcy thanks to an unfortunate deflection off the hands of Colts running back Dan Herron.

Zach Mettenberger has been the starting quarterback of the Titans since rookie phenomenon Marcus Mariota went down with an MCL sprain in Week 15 against the New England Patriots. He has played in six games for the Tennessee Titans so far and has 96 completions from 153 pass attempts – giving him a 62.7 percent completion rate. He has passed for 897 yards so far this season, averaging 5.6 yards per throw, as well as throwing four touchdown passes and six interceptions.

The Titans are playing for pride, as their playoff hopes were all but dashed weeks ago after dropping crucial divisional games against the Texans. They currently possess a 3-12 record.

While the Colts are not mathematically eliminated from playoff contention yet, they are in an incredibly sticky situation as they not only need to win this game against the Titans, but also require the Texans to drop their final game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Houston, in addition to having a whole variety of different outcomes in other final regular season games somehow miraculously fall their way.

So yeah, unfortunately it’s not going to be a championship season for either teams. Credit to the fans for showing up to watch this game though.
